Wayne Grizzel wins the header v Eastbourne Town
MATCH REPORT
Tuesday 24th April 2010
Chipstead 4 - 0 Eastbourne Town
Chipstead completed their league season with a fine performance over Eastbourne taking their tally to 43 points and finishing in 19th place.
Makeshift centre forward Ray Freeman might have had a hat trick in the first 10 minutes but is was Jason Thompson who opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a fine drive beyond Russell Tanner.
Sanchez Ming had his goal bound effort well saved by the overworked Tanner before Freeman added Chips second converting Russell Bedford's fine cross from the left after 30 minutes.
The match was all but over right on the half time whistle when Louis Hollingsworth's flick was converted by Thompson beyond Tanner for Chip's third goal of the match.
Skipper Scott Simpson was foiled by Tanner early in the second half and Eastbourne rallied and was unlucky when a 40 yard effort from the right by Scott McDonald rebounded in to play from the almost redundant Adam Pecks back post.
In a good spell from the visitors Ollie Rowe headed wide when unmarked from a corner and Danny Simmond's well struck effort was smartly collected by Peck.
As in the first half Chip's struck again on 90 minutes when substitute Kofi Quartey combined well with Simpson to finish off the visitors and Chip's season in fine form.

Chipstead defend v Dulwich Hamlet
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 17th April 2010
Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Chipstead
Chipstead increased their league points to 40 with a well deserved point at Dulwich with a fine all round team performance.
A goal from makeshift striker Ray Freeman was enough to gain a point in a free flowing game in which neither side are now influenced by play off's or relegation.
Dulwich winger Sol Pinnock caused an early scare with a strong run and volley and then rolling the ball in to the path of Alim Sesay who's shot produced a fine save from Adam Peck.
Chip's opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Antony Morrison took a quick throw to Jason Thompson who curled in a cross from the left which Freeman timed to perfection to meet on the half volley placing it wide of the outstretched arm of Phil Wilson.
Dulwich replied with some sustained pressure and ex Dulwich midfielder Sanchez Ming was well placed to clear a strong header from Nicolas Plumain which was goal bound. Danny Dudley playing in central defence in place of Lee Coburn made a crucial block tackle which rebounded to Osa Obamwonyi but his wild lash sent the ball high over Pecks crossbar.
Dulwich equalised when Chip's conceded a free kick wide on the left and Gerry Gonnella drove in a low delivery which fell amongst Peck and a crowd of bodies and Obamwonyi was on hand to knock the ball home.
Minutes later Morrison made a tricky run in to the Dulwich box and was felled by a stray leg and there was no hesitation in Referee Ian Bentley awarding a spot kick.
Skipper Scott Simpson placed his shot firmly to Wilson's left who at full length pushed the ball away to safety with the save of the match.
Chip's finished strongly with Freeman rounding two defenders before the in form Wilson denied him a second goal and Chip's hero at Sittingbourne Thompson flashed a thirty five yard free kick inches over man of the match Wilson's goal.

Sittingbourne 1 - 2 Chipstead
Chipstead confirmed their future for another season in the Ryman League with a fine away victory at Sittingbourne on 14 April last week.
Two goals from left back Jason Thompson steered them to victory although a 78th minute reply for Sittingbourne made for some anxious moments in the last 12 minutes with the home side throwing everybody forward in search of an equaliser.
The game started cautiously without either side creating opportunities in the opening 15 minutes. Louis Hollingsworth made a great tackle on Colin Richmond to prevent a chance and Adam Peck in goal for Chip's dealt competently with crosses and cut out some near post deliveries to prevent any goal worthy efforts in the first session.
Chip's took the lead on 32 minutes when captain Scott Simpson was fouled on the right cutting inside his marker. Thompson stepped up to drive home a strong curving effort into the far side of Deren Ibrahim's goal to open the scoring.
Sittingbourne came back with avengeance after the restart pressurising Chip's from the outset but they resisted with great all round hard work from all the team and on 61 minutes against the run of play Thompson added a second goal to his tally for the season with a fine 30 yard volley that would be the envy of most strikers giving Chip's a cushion to defend. Sittingbourne replied with efforts from Jimmy Bottle and Jack Hooper but neither was on target.
Chip's lead might have been extended when Ray Freeman broke through the home defence but his lob was just wide of the advancing Ibrahim's goal. Peck was brought into action making numerous saves towards the 90 minute marker and Chip's battled out the 3 minutes added time to earn a well fought victory.

Croydon 3-0 Chipstead
Chipstead couldn't find the form that earned them three points two days ago against Horsham ymca but given more changes due to injuries they battled well and created plenty of opportunities to have got on the score sheet throughout the 90 minutes.
Adam Peck in Chips goal was in fine early form saving well in the opening minutes from Croydons hungry strikers.
Croydon took the lead after 15 minutes when a corner wasn't cleared further than the edge of the penalty area and midfielder Jacob Erskine thumped home the clearance through a crowd of players. It stayed that way until the second half with neither side making the best of any half chances that came along.
Chip's battled well after the restart and created some opportunities through Antony Morrison & substitute's Kofi Quarty & Alec Brown.
However no goal's arrived & Chip's fell further behind after 76 minutes when Danny Waldron netted Croydon's second goal after Peck had prevented a certain goal from
Chris Piper. The match went beyond Chip's reach soon after when substitute Taurean
McDonald-Roberts chased through a long clearance and shot past the advancing Peck.
Alec Brown had one more chance which flew over Croydons goal and Peck ensured Chip's never conceded more with some good keeping in the closing stages.

Adam Peck saves v Horsham YMCA
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 3rd April 2010
Chipstead 2 - 0 Horsham YMCA
LIAM Wright scored one and had a hand in the other as Chipstead beat Horsham YMCA 2-0 on Saturday.
The result went a long way to securing the High Road club Ryman football for another season, steering them well clear of the bottom two.
Frustration was clearly seeping into the play by the time the High Road outfit scored in a game where every slight contact was pulled up for a foul.
Wright was so annoyed when a cross came straight back to him off a defender that he lashed the ball goalward - and it was only kept out by a combination of post and keeper Simon Lockwood.
That was on 66 minutes. Three minutes later home keeper Adam Peck thwarted an attack, threw the ball to man-of-the-match Anthony Morrison and he supplied Wright, who composed himself and picked his spot to score his fifth in five games since signing on at High Road.
Two minutes from time, Wright held the ball up long enough for substitute Sanchez Ming to make a run.
The winger nudged the ball over the sprawling keeper, then followed up with another touch to ensure the ball went over the line.
Young stopper Peck, restored to the side, made some excellent saves. After 22 minutes, he put a rasping, long drive from Neil Watts over the bar with his fingertips. Chipstead had hardly got going by then.
A change of formation from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2, with Russell Bedford switching from sweeper to right-back, seemed to do the trick after 35 minutes.
"We were being over-run by their left and right wingers," said Bedford, who believed Peck's inspired saves at 1-0 up were the "turning point" of the game.
The best came when Peck made a fine save from Terry Dodd, redeeming himself after his scuffed goal kick went straight to the opponent on the halfway line.
Wright had started the second half by stooping to head wide and Chipstead went on to have the better of the half.
There were also good simplicity, quality and composure from Callum McLean in midfield, as he returned from a shoulder injury.
Chipstead: Peck, Bedford, Hollingsworth, Coburn, Thompson, Pitterson (Ming 71), Matthews, McLean, Morrison, Wright (Freeman 90), Rivers. Unused subs: A Brown, Quarty, Dudley.

Chipstead 1 - 4 Met Police
CHIPSTEAD recorded a disappointing defeat to the Met Police on Tuesday night that leaves them 18th in the league with six games to secure safety, writes Kaylee Seckington.
With just four minutes on the clock Met Police went ahead after Phil Ruggles ran through on goal and despite being marshalled by two defenders, scored easily.
Met Police exploited their superior pace, running Chips ragged. After a flick by Ron Edwards, Craig Wilkins shot wide.
The Chips were having trouble stringing a succession of passes together, but after another chance for Wilkins, keeper Bromby saved bravely at the feet of attacking reinforcements. On the half-hour Chips started to find their feet, but were still lacking chances.
In first-half added time Police hit a second when Paul Honey's free-kick went in without a significant second touch, with keeper Bromby watching runners.
Two substitutions made the Chips look brighter in the second half. Shots from distance came from Anthony Morrison and Russell Bedford.
On 60 minutes, Craig Brown's shot was well saved by Bromby and cleared by debutant Craig Pitterson. Bromby tipped another shot over t he bar when Ruggles released a thunderbolt.
With 11 minutes left to play substitute Sean Rivers made it 2-1 when his strike from inside the box left the keeper little chance.
Just when it look as if the Chips might rescue a point, a Ron Edwards cross was deflected into the net off a defender. In added time, a Nathan Simpson cross was put away by Rob Smith.
Chipstead: Bromby, Bedford, Thompson, Russell (Rivers), Coburn, Matthews, Pitterson, McClean, Wright, Simpson (Moody), Freeman (Morrison). Unused subs: Peck, Watts.

Walton & Hersham 2 - 2 Chipstead
Chips twice fought back to earn a deserved point in a well balanced match.
Two more signings during the week helped replace injured players and soon showed their value to Mark Thompkins for the vital run in of matches.
Lee Coburn displayed strength and experience at the centre of defence whist Liam Wright began his debut with two fine strikes.
Chips had an early scare when Ray Freeman cleared off the goaline from Swan's Junior Kaffo's goal bound header
The opening goal came about after 28 minutes when Aaron Murphy's cross was headed against Chip's far post by Adam Broomhead and top scorer Martin Grant was on hand to react first and tap home.
It only took Chip's two minutes to reply when Wright run on to a through ball and hit a fine shot from 20 yards past Delroy Preddie.
Chip's started the second half much the better side and Michael Charles almost scored an own goal when a cross fired off him and flew straight in to Preddie's arms.
Freeman set up Wright for a shot which just flew over Preddie's crossbar during this good spell of pressure.
The home side took the lead against the run of play when substitute Kevin Lock cut inside from the right and rolled the ball into the path of Kaffo to finish.
Grant had a half chance breaking through the defence but Adam Peck's decision to rush out forced him to lob the ball over him and wide of goal.
Liam Wright scored the deserved equaliser for Chip's when he outpaced Walton's rear guard and shot past Preddie against the post and followed up to finish.

MATCH REPORT

Chipstead 0 - 1 Godalming Town
Chipstead couldn't find a way through the visitors defence and fell to a single second half goal when they conceded a corner kick after James Wastell had pulled off a great save from Greame Purdy's powerful header.
Chip's got caught napping when Town took a short free kick and slack defending gave substitute Phil Williams the time he needed to shoot, although he scuffed the shot Wastell was unsighted and with no defender on the near post the ball rolled in off the woodwork.
With few chances in a drab first half it seemed neither side would break the deadlock.
Chip's created a few half chances in the second half with Daniel Moody's cross skimming off Arron Smith's head when Sean Rivers was better placed to attack the ball.
Jason Thompson set River's up for a half volley but Garry Aulsberry was well placed to collect in the visitor's goal. Godalming went close when Purdy drove a free kick over Chip's defensive wall which thundered against the crossbar back in to play which closely preceded the 71st minute winner from Williams.
Chip's pushed forward and Ray Freeman netted after a fine move but was adjudged offside and with almost the last kick of the game Nathan Green shaved the post with a fine 25 yard drive.
On a brighter note Bradly Drake returned from a two year layoff due to injury and will be an assist in Chip's run in.

MATCH REPORT
Tuesday 9th March 2010
Chipstead 1 - 3 Corinthian Casuals
TOP scorer Sean Rivers scored after just six minutes, but Chipstead could not secure the win against fellow lowly placed Corithian Casuals.
Continuing their dip after last Tuesday's narrow defeat to AFC Wimbledon, they lost their second game in a row against struggling sides around them.
A victory could have taken them above Casuals, whose keeper Luke Naughton they found in outstanding form.
James Russell's forceful strike from about 20 yards after 15 minutes looked destined for goal until Naughton popped up from nowhere to tip the ball over the bar.
Rivers had tucked the ball in after a corner, from which the visitors looked susceptible. After 25 minutes, however, Chipstead paid for not converting their corners, when Yosef Marwali finished, when the ball bobbled around the box, through a crowd of players.
After half-time, the game deteriorated and Chipstead failed to get going.
After 51 minutes keeper James Wastell half-cleared with a punch from a corner and eventually the ball fell for Kane Sergeant to strike with Wastell off his line.
Left winger Ray Freeman got free for Chips, his speed taking him past his marker, but Naughton made a great save with his legs to deny him.
Corinthians could have made it three when Scott Corbett went round Wastell but ended up too close to the dead ball line to score.
He crossed back into the middle, but Sergeant scuffed the ball straight back into Wastell's arms, the ball possibly catching a bobble.
On 83 minutes, however, Casual did make it was 3-1 when right-back Marwali scored again.
Following one of many free-kicks given away, he hit the ball on the half volley.

James Wasell saves v Whitstable Town
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 6th March 2010
Whitstable Town 1 - 0 Chipstead
Whilst Chip's had three forced changes from their match on Tuesday against AFC Wimbledon the game never reached any great expectations and the Oysters scraped a goal with just 3 minutes remaining to snatch the points in what turned into a typical dogfight of two sides battling to avoid the relegation places. Not a good spectacle for the crowd on a bitterly cold afternoon when they needed something to warm themselves on. There was a great deal of play between the boxes but little to excite the crowd with any goalmouth action for the first 45 minutes. Wayne Grizzle made an early appearance as a replacement for Alan Mathews and struck a fine shot high of goal from long range.
Whitstable started the second half the livelier and James Wastell was called into action punching clear from some good deliveries. The home side netted from Stuart Vahid but the flag was already raised for offside.
Daniel Moody fired in a cross shot which couldn't be converted but Chip's were being pushed back and they were lucky not to fall behind when skipper Clint Gooding somehow managed to fire over Wastell's crossbar from 6 yards out.
Ray Freeman proved a problem to the home side down the left but for all his endeavour their was no end product from Sean Rivers or skipper Scott Simpson today. Moody had the best chance for Chip's in the second period flicking just to high at the near post to cause Kevin Fewell a problem. Chip's were close to securing a point but for a fine piece of individuality which finished with Ian Pullman firing home just three minutes from time.

MATCH REPORT
Chipstead sunk by last-gasp Dons
Thursday, March 04, 2010
CHIPSTEAD 3 - 4 AFC WIMBLEDON
Chipstead's players and manager were left devastated after AFC Wimbledon's late, late show denied them a famous victory in the Surrey Senior Cup quarter-final at High Road on Tuesday night.
Two goals by Scott Simpson had given Chipstead what looked like a commanding 3-1 lead minutes after half-time.
But having taken off Jon Main and scorer Danny Kedwell, who have 34 goals between them in the Blue Square Premier this season, at the interval, the Dons went on to snatch victory.
The scored via a disputed penalty and levelled on 89 minutes, before snatching victory in the third minute of injury time to earn a semi-final against Walton & Hersham or Godalming Town.
Chipstead boss Mark Tompkins, said: "We should have won. How many chances did we have? We had two one on ones, Sean Rivers had a free header and Ray Freeman had a great chance but wellied it. We should have been out of sight."
Tompkins had long insisted the game was one to enjoy, with no pressure on his Ryman South team four divisions below their visitors.
"I said for us it would be a game to enjoy. We wanted a good performance.
"We knew they would be a strong side, but after the game we're thinking we've thrown that away.
"It just shows how far we have come, from losing 6-0 against Dartford in the FA Cup early in the season to playing AFC Wimbledon and coming off disappointed that we haven't won."
He praised Simpson and Rivers, who scored Chipstead's first to level on 18 minutes, for the way they worked the line.
Tompkins was left frustrated by the penalty for a shirt pull which brought the game back to 3-2, which looked a harsh decision from Kingston referee Darren Sheldrake. "I don't think it was a penalty and he said afterwards maybe I might have got it wrong - but I don't want to hear that now, do I?"
In the first half, however, Wimbledon thought they not only had a case for handball on Chipstead's line but that the ball was actually over the line. "I heard it might be," reflected Tompkins, who will be as keen to see the video the Dons made via a man filming from on top of the clubhouse as many Wimbledon fans.
Tompkins also had much praise for Adam Peck, the keeper who made several fine saves in the second half as Chipstead's rearguard made a valiant attempt to keep out AFC Wimbledon's lively second half strikers Luke Moore and Nathan Elder.
The night looked ominous for Chipstead after Kedwell, who had several chances, headed in the opener after 11 minutes. Freeman, the left winger, spent much of the first half defending, but when Chipstead broke they made the most of it.
From three shots - one off target - they scored twice, the first when Rivers juggled the ball past Seb Brown - recently unbeaten in the Blue Square Premier for 600 minutes - to equalise on 18 minutes. "I thought a defender was going to come up behind me and take the ball, but there was nobody there," said Rivers afterwards.
The Dons failed to make the most of several free-kicks before Simpson, after Nicky White's pass, scored in first-half injury time, nipping in as the defence went missing, netting with his second touch.
Two minutes after half-time, Simpson picked up the ball on the halfway line on the left, sprinted forward with it and slid the ball past Brown. He didn't even celebrate. "The game wasn't over," he gave as the explanation.
"We had the chances and we knew we could have finished it off - we're gutted," he added.
"They were over-running us by the end," he admitted. "We hit them on the break well and it's disappointing.
"With the squad we've got now, if we had started with that at the beginning of the season we would be pressing near the top of the league," said Simpson, who returned to High Road a few days before the campaign began."
Peck, a teenager voted man of the match, started a tremendous half by tipping away an Elder shot at full stretch, then found a ricocheting ball at his feet. It could have gone through his legs, but he got some luck as it stopped and he picked it up.
Peck made another full-stretch save with 15 minutes left, but could do nothing about former Brentford midfielder Poole's penalty, nor the header from which Gregory headed in the equaliser from the disputed free-kick.
The man doing AFC Wimbledon fans' radio told his listeners he feared frost bite as extra-time loomed, but it was not to be.
A valiant defensive display from Louis Hollingsworth and James Russell - and midfielder Allan Matthews - was finally, cruelly, undone with a piece of jinking magic from Poole, who curled a delightful shot past Peck at the end of his run.
Tompkins, rightly, could not pick out individual performances. The whole team can live off the credit for this performance for some time.
Chipstead: Peck, Bedford, Hollingsworth, Russell, Thompson, White (Grizzle), Matthews, Smith (Moody), Simpson, Rivers, Freeman. Unused subs: AJ Morrison, Tompkins, Leigh (gk).

Eyes on the ball v Ashford Town
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 27th February 2010
Chipstead 1-0 Ashford Town
Chip's gained three more valuable points to maintain the gap from the bottom club who were today's opponents keeping a ten point difference.
It wasn't a classic match more like a scrap with both teams having good chances to score. Ashford started the livelier of the two sides and Chip's didn't start playing until the match was 20 minutes old.
There were some half chances at each end with the keepers playing their part to keep a blank score card.
There was nothing Scott Chalmers-Stevens could do about Scott Simpson's finish which came about after some fine work on the left by Ray Freeman who found Simpson with his final pass and his firm strike was never going anywhere else but the goal.
Ashford started brightly after the break and their best chance to equalise was squandered by Paul Jones who somehow managed to sky his opportunity high over James Wastell and Chip's cross bar from eight yards out after Joe Fuller had delivered a good cross in to him.
Ross Morley also shot across Wastell's goal where the ball ran to safety. Both Freeman and Nathan Green had chances to hit the target but their efforts went wide or high of the visitor's goal.
Ashford had one last chance from a free kick floated in but Craig Cloke headed that harmlessly over Wastell's crossbar.
Chip's have now reached thirty points and another ten from the remaining 13 games should see them safe but things can change so quickly 39 more must be the target.

Sean Rivers goes close v Chatham Town
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 13th February 2010
Chipstead 1 - 0 Chatham Town
Chip's gained three more valuable points to widen the gap from the bottom two clubs with another strong performance to complete a hat trick of wins in the last two weeks. Sean Rivers threatened Chatham early on with a thunderous free kick from 30 yards which Dean Ruddy just managed to flick over his goal.
James Wastell needed to be alert diving smartly to his left to prevent a goal from a powerful headed effort from Richard Avery. Ruddy was brought into the action again smartly tipping over Scott Simpson's near post flick on.
Brendon Cass missed a golden opportunity for the visitors firing over from six yards out when the ball suddenly dropped to him.
Rivers won the game for Chip's with a smartly taken headed effort from Antony Morrisons cross which followed a fine build up between Ray Freeman, Morrison and Liam Grier right on the hour mark.
Grier also fired just wide with a long range effort as Chip's tried to kill the game off. Chatham fought back searching for an equaliser and Wastell had to be at his best saving from Rob Denness and then coming out of goal smartly to block another effort. Chip's maintained some good possession in the closing ten minutes to earn a well deserved result against their tenth placed visitors.

Chipstead on the attack at Whyteleafe
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 6th February 2010
Whyteleafe 0 - 2 Chipstead
A dogged first half performance from Chips produced a goalless first half in which both sides were guilty of being goal shy with the crowd wondering if it could get any better in the second spell.
It was 34 minutes before Chips managed a shot on goal, skipper Scott Simpson testing Robert O'Hara with a half volley.
Chips were forced into a substitution when Aaron Smith couldn't continue and the popular Gareth Graham made his appearance on 37 minutes.
The home side levelled up the goal attempts just before the break when Daniel Aldous forced James Wastell into a save leaving the game goalless at the break.
Chip's got a breakthrough in the 69th minute when ex Chip's full back Chris Head was adjudged to have handled Liam Grier's cross from the right and the assistant signalled a penalty. Sean Rivers made no mistake from the spot blasting the ball past O'Hara.
The match opened up somewhat after the goal with Whyteleafe pressing hard for an equaliser and Wastell proved his worth with some smart clearances from numerous corners.
Chip's were able to counter attack on the break and Antony Morrison forced O'Hara to save with his legs whilst at the other end Leafe's skipper Danny Oakins fired in an angled shot which cannoned off Wastell's left hand post.
The home side also smacked the crossbar from a free kick but it wasn't to be their day as three minutes from the end substitute Ray Freeman broke away from the halfway line on the left and fired past O'Hara to kill the game and give Chip's a deserved win.

MATCH REPORTThursday, 4 February 2010,
Surrey Senior Cup- Third Round
Chipstead 4 - 0 Egham Town
A BRACE from Daniel Moody and a goal each from Scott Simpson and the on-fire Sean Rivers were enough to secure a lucrative home tie against AFC Wimbledon in the quarter-finals of the Surrey Senior Cup.
Lower league Egham Town had a plethora of opportunities, but were unable to penetrate the Chipstead defence on Tuesday night.
Egham had the brighter start with Paul Bartholomew putting in a cross from the right which, if it was not for some tight marking, would have reached Karli Andrews.
On 17 minutes the Chips started to find their feet and Moody put in a good cross that was gathered by the Egham defender Tom Martin, who was playing in goal due to injuries.
Just before the half hour, the Chips got their breakthrough when Jason Thompson's cross from the left found the head of Rivers.
On 34 minutes Egham's Mike Carey's corner skimmed the head of Wayne Wogde, but the touch was not enough to direct the ball goal bound.
In a 10 minute spell of continuous attacking, the Chips were forced to make a number of vital clearances including a header off the line, and a finger-tip save by keeper Adam Peck.
On the stroke of half-time Chipstead got their second when an Egham defender missed a important interception, allowing Moody to run through one-on-one against the keeper. Martin, clearly bemused at his defence, attempted to close Moody down, but the Chips man rounded him and struck the ball into the right corner of the net.
Egham started the second half lively, with Luke Muldoney setting up Matt Greaves for a shot, but the striker sent the ball just wide.
On 60 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Wayne Grizzle. Captain Scott Simpson stepped up and struck the ball confidently into the right bottom corner.
In a spell of dominance, both sets of fans were surprised the referee chose not to award two more penalties to Chips as Egham showed their frustration.
With 15 minutes to go, the stand-in Egham keeper showed great composure to catch a Grizzle cross from the left.
With two minutes left on the clock, Nicky White sent Moody away with a through ball from midfield. Beautifully exploiting the line, Moody raced forward and chipped the ball over the keeper's shoulder, to secure the win.

MATCH REPORT
Saturday 30th January 2010
Chipstead 1-2 Fleet Town
Chips had an early setback when the visitors took the lead after just four minutes. A long throw from the right wasn't cleared properly and Nathan Smart volleyed home the first opportunity of the match.
Fleet enjoyed the best possession throughout the first half testing James Wastell at the near post producing a fine save.
For Chips Sean Rivers wasn't too far away with a headed effort and skipper Scott Simpson test David Smalley in the visitors goal with a bending drive that forced him to push away for a corner at full stretch.
Chip's looked much livelier at the restart and pulled level after 50 minutes when Simpson made a jinxing run on the left side putting in a low cross at the near post which Rivers smartly converted.
Fleet didn't take to long to respond and Darren Wheeler worked his way along the bye line delivering the perfect cross to centre forward Mark Anderson to drive home from eight yards out. Fleet might have increased their lead when two more crosses passed by a melee of players without contact by either side
Wastell produced a fine save diving to his left to prevent Anderson his second of the match whilst at the other end Simpson went close to salvaging a point for Chips with his volley which shaved Smalley's right post.
Fleet produced a league winning performance and must be close to being favourites for promotion but Chips have produced two fine performances in the last two games playing two top four sides and creating enough chances to have got something from both games and if this level of performance can be maintained a victory isn't to far away.

MATCH REPORT
Tuesday 19th January 2010
Chipstead 1 - 1 Dulwich Hamlet
IT was two points lost according to manager Mark Tompkins, as Chipstead ground out this draw.
Tompkins said he was not happy with the result and his side were "not at the races" on Tuesday night.
The Chips broke the deadlock after 35 minutes, but Tompkins believes a more co-ordinated defence could have avoided them being pegged back less than 10 minutes later.
"I think they could've done a bit better for the goal," said Tompkins.
"The two centre-halves, one had come out and one had stayed in, and it has left a big gap down the middle. It was a poor goal to concede."
The Chips, who sit in 19th position in the table, have had a significant change in playing staff since the start of the season, and Tompkins admits the league might look different if they had started with their current squad.
"We have completely turned around the club," he said.
"If we'd had this personnel at the start of the season we would be further up the table. We've done our pre-season in the season.
"Scott Simpson worked really hard for us and Russell Bedford had a good second half, too."
Next up for Chipstead is leaders Folkestone Invicta but Tompkins believes there are points to be won away from home.
"We have a hard game on Saturday. We don't go into it with any fear. Last time we played them it was 0-0 and we missed a penalty, so we'll definitely have a go." he insisted.
On a cold, foggy Tuesday night, both teams got off to a lively start at High Road, with end to end action and vocal support both on and off the pitch.
For the first five minutes all the action belonged to the home side, who incited gasps from the stand after a cross narrowly landed the wrong side of the crossbar.
Dulwich started to get into the game and it needed a good clearance from Alan Mathews to break up their play.
On 17 minutes a well aimed free-kick by Junior Kadi needed a strong header away by the Chips' defence.
With both sides struggling for dominance, Dulwich keeper Phil Wilson was forced to make a double saved in the 28th minute.
Chips opened the scoring after top-scorer Sean Rivers connected well with a cross from the right.
Dulwich reacted well, and six minutes later levelled when Frankie Sawyer got on the end of a perfectly weighted through ball from midfield.
The diminutive striker kept his cool to put the ball past keeper James Wastell.
The second half was largely a stalemate, as both teams sought a winner without any real vigour.
In the 51st minute Kadi sent a free-kick over after Paul Scott was brought down.
Ten minutes later Scott had the ball in the Chips' net only for the linesman to raise his flag.In the 69th minute captain Scott Simpson had the Chips' best chance of the second half, but could only aim his strike straight at Wilson.
Chipstead: James Wastell, Bedford, Jason Thompson, James Russell, Donovan, Nicky White, Allan Mathews, Aaron Smith, Sean Rivers, Scott Simpson, Antony Morrison, Wayne Grizzle, Jordan Kiffin, Rob Lynch. Unused subs: Paul Deegan, Ryan Watts.

Action from the home game v Merstham
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 2nd January 2010
Chipstead 0 - 1 Merstham
CARL Gibbs secured Merstham's first league victory since November and turned the tables on Chipstead after a 3-0 defeat on Boxing Day.
The hosts failed to take the lead before the interval as Ray Freeman missed an open goal and Gibbs struck two minutes later to get Merstham's play-off aspirations back on track.
James Wastell, in Chipstead's goal, was given the home side's man of the match.
The visitors looked determined to set the record straight after Boxing Day.
David Smith drove forward and forced Wastell to make a low save inside three minutes.
Merstham got in behind the home defence again on 20 minutes but Carley lobbed wide.
The home side looked dangerous on the counter-attack and after a Merstham corner Freeman sprinted towards the visitors' goal with only Wes Goggin to beat.
But Merstham's captain stood strong and did exceptionally well to keep Freeman from having a shot at goal.
Another Chipstead break two minutes later gave Scott Simpson the time to pick out Ian Mathews at the far post, but Mathews failed to keep his diving header under the bar.
Chipstead should have taken the lead after 40 minutes.
Sean Rivers played Anthony Morrison through on goal and, with keeper Ian Chatfield approaching, Morrison unselfishly squared the ball across to Freeman.
However, Freeman failed to control the pass with the goal at his mercy.
Freeman did manage to play the ball back to Simpson, but his shot was easily saved by the recovering Chatfield.
Chipstead paid a heavy price. Two minutes later Carley drove past Jason Thompson on the right and found Gibbs inside the penalty area who fired the ball past Wastell for the half-time lead.
In the second half Wastell produced two outstanding saves to keep the hosts in the game.
First the keeper denied Smith, who fired a shot from close range, and then a couple of minutes later he tipped a Goggin header round the post.
The final 20 minutes saw Merstham become tentative with Chipstead pushing for an equaliser.
Smith was impressive in midfield breaking up attacks and playing the simple ball to keep possession.
Merstham had to survive a scare when Tristan Frontin failed to clear his lines leaving Simpson to get his foot to the ball before reaching Chatfield.
Luckily Simpson could not direct the effort on target as the ball drifted comfortably wide.
Chipstead pushed everybody forward in the final minutes and when Russell Bedford's free-kick fell kindly to substitute Michael Donovan inside the area, Chatfield needed to be on hand again to push the ball to safety as Merstham held on for a valuable three points.

Merstham 0 -3 Chipstead
Chips continued their recent fine run of good form with a convincing win over lack lustre local rivals Merstham.
A Sean Rivers double and a third goal from skipper Scott Simpson left the moatsiders in no doubt who was the in form team of the day.
The home side caused an early scare for Chip's but James Wastell covered the shot and it bounced away for a corner which Chip's defence dealt with.
The lead came about when a spell of pressure from the visitors resulted in a shot being handled by Charlie Turnbull and on 24 minutes Rivers converted the penalty kick.
Merstham had their best opportunity to equalise before the break when Louis Hollingsworth caught Aaron Hay in the box and Craig Carley struck his spot kick against Wastell's left hand post.
Merstham started the second half in a more determined fashion and Chip's found themselves defending several corners in succession. But on sixty minutes when a cleaver touch by Simpson sent Ray Freeman flying down the left wing and his perfectly timed cross found the hungry Rivers making a run to meet and convert his pass the home side began to run out of idea's.
The visitors capitalised on that killing the game off with a third goal from skipper Simpson after a penetrating run from Antony Simpson culminated in a pinpoint pass to Simpson who converted from close range. Wastell ensured another clean sheet with a save close to the finish that sets up next week's return match quite nicely.

Surrey Senior Cup
Chipstead 3 - 1 Lingfield (After extra time)
SEAN Rivers scored his 11th goal in 10 games for Chipstead, but boss Mark Tompkins hailed substitute Arron Smith for turning the tie around.
Chips went a goal down within half a minute when Ricky Spain chipped keeper Dean Rose, who was well off his line, after just three players had touched the ball.
Scott Simpson levelled just a few minutes before the end of normal time, sending a freezing crowd reaching for extra thermals.
After 101 minutes, Rivers sent a looping header from Simpson's cross past Adam Woodward, before notching a penalty with seconds remaining after Ray Freeman's pace had caused Woodward to bring him down in the box.
It brings a dream tie with AFC Wimbledon - two rounds away - and a return to High Road for Russell Harmsworth, now with the Dons' management, a step closer
Tompkins said: "I think Lingfield were the better side in the first half."
At half-time Tompkins took off injured left-back Ryan Watts, pulled left winger Jason Thompson to left back and sent on James Russell for Mick Donovan who "looked off his peak", sending on Smith to bloster the midfield.
"Arron came on and changed the game, he got hold of it by the scruff of the neck and dictated to the players."
Tompkins signed Smith when manager of Croydon from Holmesdale 18 months ago and pulled in the player again, who is recovering from Gilmour's groin. His hunger showed. "The fitter he gets, the better he will be," reflected Tompkins, part of the group of judges who made him man of the match.
Victory gave Chipstead a third win on the spin, after two league victories, and left Tompkins hoping they can take a third at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday.
"We owe them," said Tompkins. "They beat us 3-1 at the start of the season, but having said that I think there are only two players from that 16 left. We're looking to win, we want to make it four wins on the bounce."
Tompkins also had praise for Rivers - and his work rate and improvement - after finding him playing for Guildford up until the autumn.
"I didn't realise he was playing in the league below," Tompkins said. "I thought he was playing for Walton & Hersham and it was actually [fellow player] Gareth Graham who said he was there.
"He has had a name as a bit of a lazy player but he and Scott [Simpson] have formed a bit of a partnership. He's an excellent centre forward [finisher], but I used to be a striker myself and I told him to move to the next level you need the whole package, not just to score goals.
"It's infectious when people work hard."
Rivers believes the Chips can push into midtable from the bottom four of the Ryman League Division One South.
Having been at four other clubs in the past year, he said: "I like Chipstead and as long as I score goals it makes me happy.
"Hopefully we can push into midtable. When we've played some of the top teams, like Godalming, we've more than matched them."
Rivers admitted Tompkins had told him where he had to improve and said he was enjoying his role holding the ball up for Simpson to run onto. "When you are playing as two strikers you can't play alongside each other. He has the legs to get the ball and then I have to get into the box."
After Spain gave the visitors a shock lead, their tails were up and they looked the more likely to score again,
Chipstead had a fair amount of possession but found little way past Nytram Dixon-Baker and Gareth Broom, while Spain enjoyed himself setting up former Redhill striker Andrew Dalehouse and Simon Wallace.
On 18 minutes Dalehouse tried to chip keeper Rose, who got a hand to the ball and the other hand to the striker's shirt.
But for some reason - possibly that a defender was covering - Farnham referee Jim Paterson allowed Rose to stay on the field and deemed that he had not denied a clear scoring chance.
From the resultant penalty Dalehouse unforgivably put the ball wide. That was a major turning point, felt both managers.
In the second half, both teams hit the woodwork - Rivers heading a Simpson cross onto the bar.
And just as visiting boss Steve Perkins urged his men to keep their shape they conceded following the ball going back into play from a throw-in.
Simpson rifled in from 10 yards - his second in two games. AJ Morrison, on his debut, came increasingly into the game on the right of Chipstead's midfield.
Then in extra time it was Simpson who supplied the cross from which Rivers' looping header went over Woodward. Rivers' penalty after Freeman was felled was the last meaningful action.

Chipstead 3 - 0 Whitstable Town
Those who question Sean Rivers' work rate off the ball should take note of his performances on Tuesday night.
Rivers started at Whyteleafe last season before being persuaded by his old Carshalton boss Dave Garland to sign for ambitious Croydon Athletic.
Within weeks Garland got the boot and, although there was no question Rivers was a great goal poacher, a tougher Rams under Tim O'Shea, fresh from the Conference, ended his spell there.
On Tuesday, Rivers had to fight just as hard off the pitch as on it to claim his second of the night as Chips climbed out of the bottom two.
It was originally credited to James Russell.
The forward might have been forgiven for thinking he had done enough for the night as the hosts raced to a 3-0 half-time lead.
But, despite increasingly slippery conditions in the second half, when Chips were under much pressure, Rivers could be seen foraging for the ball when possession was lost, chasing lost causes and putting Whitstable's defenders under pressure when they had the ball.
Taking the ball on his chest, then turning in one movement to shoot, his hunger for goal was evident in the seventh minute.
He broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when he flicked on Ryan Watts' speculative ball and it flipped over the keeper, who flapped like a kite all evening.
Russell made it two on 30 minutes, followed up Arron Smith's sliding shot that hit the bar. Smith, like Watts a former Croydon player - and just glad to be playing again after injury - was booked for kicking the ball away when an earlier foul looked worse.
Rivers claimed the third on 37 minutes, his shot getting an immediate deflection off a defender over hapless Kevin Fewell, flapping again.
Victory could not have been achieved without fine saves from James Wastell.
Early in the first half, he had clawed away the ball in front of Dan Wisker, who looked Whitstable's main danger but who limped off before the hour.
In the second period, it did not matter whether it was a stretch high at the back post, a dramatic leap to his right to palm away a header or low saves to left and right, Wastell had it covered.
Visiting striker David Cory would have had few more frustrating nights.

Walton Casuals 4 - 1 Chipstead
Chipstead were put under early pressure and Martin Grant did well punching clear a cross Casuals Yarnie.
Eleven minutes into the game Reggie Savage cut inside the full back and lobbed the advancing keeper, to put Chipstead ahead.
After a mix up in the Chips defence in the 14th minute Walton's Grant leveled the scores. Chips continued to take the game to Casuals and in the 25 minute Scott Simpson put in an excellent cross to Savage who's header scrapped over the crossbar.
Grant scored the second goal and the goal of the game for Casuals in the 26 minute with an fierce drive from 30 yards that left Chips keeper Dean Rose little chance.
The 2nd half started with Chips putting pressure on Casuals to equalise, but at times leaving themselves open to the counter attack.
In the 52nd Barima intercepted a pass and crossed for Grant to complete his hat-trick for the home side.
After 80 minutes Sean Rivers saw his rasping shot just skim the Casuals crossbar.
Chips conceded a free kick when Rose picked up a back pass at the edge of the 6 yard box. The resulting free kick was hit against the wall and the rebound was well saved by Rose.
In the 85th minute Casuals Yarnie rounded Rose to score Casuals 4th goal.

Chipstead 0 - 1 Walton & Hersham
Chipstead couldn't find a way through the visitors defence & fell to a single second half goal when they conceded a needless free kick just outside their goal area.
Substitute Jordan Cheadle rose above everyone to power home the only goal of the match on 66 minutes. The visitors are unbeaten in November and Chip's couldn't break down a well organised defence.
Walton dominated for long spells of the match and might have added to their score line but for a goal line save by full back Paul Deegan and sharp reactions by keeper Dean Rose.
Chip's best opportunity to draw level came right at the end of the match when Scott Simpson worked his way down the left flank and delivered a pinpoint cross to the near post where Sean Rivers was just foiled by Delroy Preddie who came to the visitors rescue to retain a clean sheet.
Chip's should take heart from their recent performances which have improved from the early part of the season and with a settled squad to develop things are looking far more promising and with three players still unavailable through injury they have far more to offer in the near future.

Chipstead 3 - 1 Walton Casuals
TWO late Sean Rivers penalties helped Chipstead reach the second round, where boss Mark Tompkins will renew old friendships with Lingfield manager Tony Beckingham.
Any coach will tell you a winger's close control is key. But speedy, experienced winger Ray Freeman was awarded both spot kicks after knocking the ball a few yards in front of him.
Victory could not have been achieved, however, without a fine penalty save from Dean Rose, who redeemed himself after fouling Martin Grant to give it away.
Walton have missed eight of nine spot kicks this season and Rose was armed with the information that Grant would kick to the keeper's right.
Rose, nephew of Whyteleafe keeping coach Danny, said: "Our goalkeeping coach [Julian Leigh] had seen him in the week and he said to me before the game, if there was a penalty he would be looking to go to the right."
At that stage, the 80th minute, Redhill were 1-0 up thanks to Scott Simpson on 30 minutes.
He headed the ball in from close range after a deep Alan Matthews cross, in the exact position that a minute earlier Rivers had put the ball in with his hand at head level. He seemed surprised to be booked.
The match could have been 3-3 by half-time, Jordan Kiffin drawing a save with a sharp curling shot before Rose saved point blank with his feet and later Louis Hollingsworth cleared off the line.
In the second half Walton dominated possession - and the arguments, as Chipstead got the rub of the green.
Walton's misunderstanding of the offside law - thanks to the obfuscation of the subject on Match of the Day - began their frustration.
However, from the start of the second half the referee started to lose control as decisions went against how even the players expected.
When Kiffin and Gale went for the ball equally at fault with studs high on 65 minutes, the Chipstead player turned away expecting a free kick against him, and was surprised to gain one.
It typified the evening. After 70 minutes Chris Head was adjudged to have fouled Gale, who was left flying into the box, outside the area.
It typified the evening. After 70 minutes Chris Head was adjudged to have fouled Gale, who was left flying into the box, outside the area.
Many observers thought Gale was inside the box and to double Walton's frustrations the free-kick was wasted.
On 86 minutes, Walton equalised when they played the ball around the area in a move that seemed too easy before Gale to score.
Inspired, Chipstead engineered two penalties. The first came on the stroke of full time from Kiffin's cross when left-winger Ray Freeman's attempt to control the ball resulted in it spilling five yards forward. Three defenders descended on him and he was awarded a penalty, much to the disgust of Gale, who was booked for his protests and abuse of the assistant referee.
Then in injury time Freeman's speed caught out keeper Chicho Ramos. Rivers put both penalties in the same spot to the keeper's right shoulder.
Thinking ahead to Saturday's home game with Walton & Hersham, assistant manager Mick Read said: "Hopefully we can go on and get a result on Saturday because there's a little gap emerging between the bottom few clubs and the next ones.
"I thought we played better in the first half. The wind played a big part in the second."

Isthmian League Cup Second Round
Chipstead 1 - 2 Godalming Town
CHIPSTEAD manager Mark Tompkins was left fuming with the referee after exiting the Championship Manager Isthmian League Cup on Tuesday night.
The hosts conceded first from a controversial penalty on 23 minutes. Keeper Dean Rose made an attempt to grab the ball as Andy Ottley ran across his path 16 yards out, but only struck the forward's chest.
Ottley's run was hardly interrupted, but a spot kick was given and Richard Taylor converted..
Then on 65 minutes Louis Hollingsworth was penalised for a foul with Tompkins claiming he "kicked his own heels".
Rose saved Taylor's shot high to his right, but a few minutes later Adam Haddard smashed a ball in off the bar with a left-foot shot, seemingly making the result safe.
Angry Tompkins said: "I thought the referee was really poor.
"I played football for years and you can tell by players reactions whether it is a foul or not.
"None of their players reacted for the first one and for the second our player has kicked his own heel. The players' reaction was that it wasn't a penalty.
"I spoke to the referee afterwards and he said 'It's gone now' and I said 'I know, I'm out of the cup."
Tompkins' assessment that his slightly rearranged side had competed evenly with Godalming, was merited.
The High Road club enjoyed much of the possession in the first half, although Taylor nearly scored early on when his effort sailed over Rose, hit the bar and came out.
Reggie Savage had a shot cleared off the line and a volley on the turn saved in the first half.
Rose made a great save with his legs before conceding the penalty.
Substitute Callum Crawley put an excellent chance just wide after the break, but was injured in the incident and taken off after coughing up blood. Paramedics took him to hospital after the game.
Chipstead's persistence was eventually rewarded in the 78th minute.
Right back Ashley Reid, set loose down the wing, found Sean Rivers with a cross. The striker headed towards goal past Rodney Chiweshe and substitute Joe Garner made sure the ball went over the line to make the score 2- 1.
As Chipstead sought an equaliser, Scott Simpson twice shot wide from just outside the penalty area.

Eastbourne 2 - 4 Chipstead
Sean Rivers made an immediate impact on his debut for Chipstead scoring twice and teaming up well with his new colleagues for the first time.
Chip's were slow starters and Eastbourne threatened with Chris Dickers free kick's and Ollie Row's long throws in the first twenty minutes.
Chip's settled down and started to be a threat to the nervous home side's defence and Rivers opened his account on the half hour when he flicked a ball wide to Jordan Kiffin who rounded his marker and hit in an inch perfect cross into Rivers who rose above everyone to head firmly past Paul Richardson. Chip's might have increased their lead before the break but Richardson got down well to stop Gareth Graham's effort.
Chip's started slowly again after the break and conceded a needless free kick which Dicker floated around the defence and past the stranded Dean Rose to level the scores after 52 minutes.
This kick started Chip's second half and after a double substitution on 55 minutes they began to threaten the home sides goal again. Ten minutes later they restored their lead when Ray Freeman operating on the left raced past his marker and cut inside to drill home a fine finish from a narrow angle.
Chip's seemed to be comfortably in charge but the home side threw everything at them in the final minutes searching for an equaliser and another needless free kick was conceded on the edge of the penalty area and again up stepped Dicker to float yet another free kick beyond Rose to draw level on ninety minutes.
With a draw looking on the cards and the referee indicating three minutes added time Freeman assisted by Rivers and Nicky White got away down the flank and was felled by Rowe to concede a penalty which Rivers wasted no time in dispatching past Richardson.
With the home side wondering what happened man of the match Freeman was away again storming down the left flank only this time Rowe who might have previously seen red as the last defender didn't commit to the tackle and Freeman blasted a shot past Richardson to put the game beyond the reach of the home side.

Dartford on the attack
MATCH REPORT

Dartford 3-0 Chipstead
F.A.Trophy 2nd Qualifying round
Chipstead can be proud of the performance at Princes Park where the Darts took a long time to break down a Chips side determined to show their improvement since the heavy F.A. Cup defeat earlier in the season.
The home side enjoyed far greater possession than their visitors in the early stages but some fine defending and a few off target efforts from the Darts strikers plus a good save from Dean Rose from a Lee Noble effort took us to half time with a clean sheet. Chips might have even taken a narrow lead to the dressing room but for Andy Young's fine save from Louis Hollingsworth's glancing header.
Maintaining greater possession from the restart Darts eventually got the breakthrough they required when Rose punched clear under pressure from Jay May and when the ball dropped to Jamie Day, he crisply struck the ball goal wards from 18 yards with Rose at full stretch to open the scoring.
Alan Mathews went close for Chip's but the home sides constant probing paid off again on 75 minutes when Lee Burns carried the ball down the flank and his cross was turned in by the man of the match Ryan Hayes.
Chip's were gradually being pegged back with only the occasional breakaway although Reggie Savage headed home he was adjudged to have fouled Young in doing so. Hayes so often the supplier was rewarded with Darts third goal on 85 minutes when he burst through the Chip's defence and fired in a low shot under Rose who had made some excellent saves throughout the game well supported by a tremendous back four performance.
Chip's should take heart from an all round outstanding team effort by far the best of the season and take that forward into their league matches which will certainly see a rise up the league table.

Chatham Town 0 - 1 Chipstead
Last Saturday we travelled down to Chatham Town, lying 7th in the league after 10 games. The Chatham manager's notes read " Today we have a tricky game against Chipstead. Having played many a time against their management team of Tomo and Wilfs, I know that they will be fighting and scrapping for everything! I still have the scars from Wilfs! Good honest fantastic players who I'm sure demand the same from their side. I expect our boys to do the same and earn the right to play".
Well, our lads earned their first 3 points of the season against a team who had not lost at home since February! They gave the opposition management team all they expected and more. There really aren't any easy games in this league and Tomo's lads put up an excellent away performance against a side pushing for the play-offs this season. The key to the day was the playing to orders by all concerned throughout the team and the result was a clean sheet topped off by an excellent goal from the returning Scott Simpson. Simo was always available and ready to take the pressure off the defence by winning crucial flicks and holding up play when we did manage to break out of defence. His goal came from a ball out of defence and collected midway into the Chatham half on the left. Simo drifted down the wing, cut inside his man and accelerated into the area. His firm low shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net was something Chipstead had been missing all season in some close league games and they their spirit, organisation and fitness saw them close out the remaining 20 minutes.
Special mention has to be made of Callum McClean who's battling performance was typical of the Chipstead team. Callum dislocated his shoulder mid way through the second half and the dressing room resembled a Lethal Weapon film set with Chipstead's own Mel Gibson trying to put the shoulder back in! Even with the help of 3 paramedics and all the morphine he could handle it just wouldn't go back so he had to miss the celebration he so richly deserved - get well soon Callum.

BIGGLESWADE 2 - 2 CHIPSTEAD
‘All aboard the Coach'
For the second year running, Chips had been drawn away in the first qualifying round of the F.A Trophy in Bedfordshire.
This year it was Biggleswade Town F.C, There brand new Carlsberg Stadium was very impressive with all the creature comforts any player could ask for.
Mark Tompkins picked a strong starting Eleven; with a bench of five eager to prove there point.
The game started as predicted with the home team in the first five minutes having most of the possession, winning a few early free kicks and corners, but it was not long until "chips" found there rhythm on a hard and bumpy pitch.
On Twenty Minutes a sublime move down Chips right. A tight turn by Reggie Savage flicked the ball forward to Matt Crane, newly promoted to centre forward, from centre back. Jordan Kiffin with some fancy footwork played through the Biggleswade defense to cross the ball into the box for Reggie Savage to fire home.
The Biggleswade equalizer came on 37 Mins, with Nathan Campbell conceding an own goal. A deep ball played through to the left was crossed in between Martin Grant between the sticks and the central defensive pair, Nathan tried to steer the ball away to the dead ball line to stop the approaching Biggleswade Forwards slotting home
Chipstead and Reggie Savages second goal, came on 69 mins a well worked goal, Reggie now looked hot to claim his first hatrick of the season.
Just 90 seconds later, the ball ended up in the back of the Chipstead net, for Biggleswade to equalize on 71.
The last 20 mins saw both teams trying for the winner, but as the final whistle blew, Mark Tompkins was already preparing for Tuesday nights Replay at the High Road.

Tuesday 13th October
Fleet Town 2-0 Chipstead
With the home side having the advantage of the slope on a greasy surface the match started at a fast pace. It was an evenly fought first half with Fleet's Daren Wheeler working a number of good positions using his pace on the left and delivering good balls into the box but Chipstead defended well with returning Joe Garner ably supporting Chris Head and Nathan Campbell.
However, the second half saw Chipstead concede two goals that would not have pleased manager Mark Tompkins. The first came in the 59th minute when Fleet substitute Bernard Asante pounced on a loose ball in the heart of the Chips defence to place a cool finish past an exposed Chipstead keeper Martin Grant. This was followed in the 67th minute by a near post cross that eluded Grant to flukishly creep in off the post- cruel luck on Grant who had made a number of excellent saves up to that point.
Chipstead continued to battle and began to retain far more possession against a very strong Fleet side. This resulted in six Chipstead corners and two free kicks on the edge of the Fleet box in the final ten minutes but the ball would just not go in for manager Mark Tompkins ‘ Chipstead side. The final whistle confirmed a 2-0 Fleet home win but this was a hard fought and entertaining match that suggested Fleet will be in the mix at the top of the table towards the end of the season and Chipstead's hard work and spirit should be rewarded against lesser sides.

Ball in the Chipstead box v Whyteleafe
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 10th October
Chipstead 1-4 Whyteleafe
Whyteleafe's Sam Butler was the hero in a game of two very different half's. Butler scored after six minutes cutting inside Chipstead's Nathan Campbell from the left to a place a well directed left foot shot across Chipstead's keeper, Dean Rose.
Chipstead responded well with sustained pressure, drawing free kicks from the Whyteleafe defence, but Gareth Matthews effort were comfortably taken by Robert O'Ahra who was a commanding presence in the Whyteleafe goal.
Butler continued to be dangerous and a well contended first half, ended with an excellent worked goal from Chipstead. Jordan Kissing driving a low cross field ball, from the right into Kofi Quartey, who laid it of first time to a lively Reggie Savage who set up Ray Freemen to side foot the equaliser from the left side of the area.
However the second half was really all Whyteleafe, with an uncertain Chipstead defence conceeding three goals. Whyteleafe's second was an excellent diving header from Butler, from a deep cross from the right Daryl (Rooney) Coleman finished from a Danny Oakins cut back. Butler secured his hack trick with another well taken goal.

Chipstead FC 3 - 1 Horsham YMCA
F.A Trophy Preliminary round
There was early drama at the High Road when chips conceded a goal within the first 2 minutes and midfielder Alan Matthews went to hospital with a suspected broken nose and Gareth Graham came on as his replacement.
Chips conceded an early free kick out on the edge of the goal area and Steve Sargents curling free kick was flicked into the top corner of the home sides goal by Mick Huckett.
Chips finally settled down after the first 15 minutes when John Wilfort shot just wide for Chips.
Ray Freeman raced down the left side for Chips rounding the full back and crossing for Reggie Savage to turn and fire just wide of goal.
Kofi Quartey pulled a full length safe from the visitor's keeper Tom Rand as Chips started to get the better of possession.
On 29 minutes it was Freeman again involved passing to Quartey who's shot was parried by Rand but Savage following up fired home and to open his Chipstead account for the equaliser.
At the start of the second half it was Chipstead who threatened first when Wilforts through ball was struck goal-wards by Quartey and Rand was forced to produce a first class save.
At the other end Nick White cleared off the line for the home side and Dean Rose saved well from Shatteen Sadough.
It was a splendid move that gave Chips the lead on 54 minutes when Chris Head hit a wonderful diagonal pass to Freeman who's good work ended in finding Savage who made no mistake from 10 yards.
Straight from the restart Chips got possession and Quartey and Savage combined again only to see their effort saved by Rand.
Freeman relieved the pressure on Chips defence with a great 70 yard solo run from deep in his own half to threaten the Horsham defence.
Chips kept the pressure on and Quartey presented Jordan Kiffin with his chance which rebounded from a post into Rands hands.
Scott Bennetts was shown a red following his second caution reducing the visitors to 10 men.
John Westcott then missed the best chance for Horsham to draw level when he miss cued from close range.
Chips took the game beyond Horsham's reach when Matt Simpson hand balled and presented Gareth Graham his opportunity to score from the penalty spot giving Chips a 3-1 lead on 76 minutes.
With the wind taken from the visitors sails Chips played out the last 10 minutes to earn a place in the next round.

Action in the Folkestone Box
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 19th September 2009
Chipstead 0 - 0 Folkestone Invitca
Chipstead entered the match searching for their first win of the season, against the early pace setters Folkestone Invicta. Folkestone, on the back of five straight wins, looked more confident in the early stages with striker James Dryden having numerous chances.
Chipstead were boosted when Dryden had to be replaced in the 30th minute, after falling awkwardly from a header, and finished the half strongly. Winger Ray Freeman was fouled in the box by goalkeeper Jack Delo, but Captain Gareth Graham firmly struck penalty was saved well.
The second half began at a fast pace with Folkestone's Josh Burchell hitting the bar and Chipstead substitute Mick Collins forcing Delo into a fine save. Chipstead's defence dominated as the half developed, with goalkeeper Martin Grant saving Michael Yianni's close range effort and Louis Hollingworth acrobatically clearing in the final minutes.

Chips on the attack v Dartford
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 12th September 2009
FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Chipstead 1 - 6 Dartford
Chipstead were unfortunate in coming up against a Dartford side that is currently dominating the Ryman Premier league. Mark Tomkins' side always knew this was going to be a tough game and hopes of an upset were dealt an early blow in the 1st minute. Darts winger Ryan Hayes won a disputed free-kick on the right wing after a tussle with Billy Chattaway and took everyone by surprise and whipped in a curled shot that dipped just under Chipstead goalkeeper Martin Grant's crossbar.
The home side responded well, with efforts from Kofi Quartey and Reis Aslan keeping Andrew Young on his toes. However, their defence was split by an excellent long ball from Elliot Bradshaw and Jay May clinically picked his spot in the bottom comer.
Chipstead again battled to gain a foothold in the game but were under pressure and Grant just managed to turn Hayes alluring cross away from May. Chipstead's Matt Howard and then Chattaway managed to pull out crucial blocks to Lee Burns and James White's respective goal-bound efforts but Chip's battled back and Ray Freeman smashed into the side-netting of the Darts goal.
However, the Darts were a dominant force going forward and Burns and Hayes both went close before the Darts left back, Burgess, headed a simple conversion from a Hayes cross for the third goal. Chipstead continued to battle for every ball and Grant made a splendid diving stop on another Burns' fierce strike.
After half-time the keeper went further, with outstanding reflex saves to deny Burns and White. However, Chips were not quite in the same form up front and a rare Burgess mistake in the Darts defence was not punished by Quartey when Chips were looking for that illusive foothold in the game. Chips continued to battle but on 54 minutes Darts broke away, Hayes fed White on the far left hand side, and White rifled over Grant to make it 4-0.
Chipstead refused to lie down and showed great character that will surely stand them in good stead over the coming season in the Ryman South. Their efforts ensured continued excitement and in Chips best move of the match, Freeman crossed over the head of Young to John who headed back across the goal when an attempt on goal may have paid dividends.
The referee had had little to do in a well fought but fair game but Chipstead were awarded a penalty after a challenge from behind on John just inside the Darts box. Garath Graham topped a battling performance for Chips by converting the spot kick just left of Young's dive.
However, once again the Darts turned on the style with Rob Halworth heading in at the back-post after another sensational Hayes cross, and right-back Adam Gross also got in on the act; an exquisite strike arrowed straight into the top corner from 25 yards.
The Darts fans were delighted and the Chips fans acknowledged they had seen a stunning Darts side fairly beat their team who gave it 100% right up to the final whistle.

Daniel Lawson scores v Leatherhead
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 5th September 2009
Leatherhead 2-1 Chipstead
Chipstead fell to a killer goal in the last 5 minutes from substitute Kwabena Agyei when he pounced on a loose ball that Martyn Grant failed to gather and rolled it into an empty net.
It was a harsh way for the match to finish with both sides not taking there chances and Grant in the Chip's goal saving at least three goal bound efforts from Tommy Hutchins & Hassan Nyang who also saw one of his attempts stopped by the woodwork.
Chip's started slowly but took the lead on 34 minutes when Daniel Lawson lobbed the ball over Craig Bradshaw from a tight angle. The lead was short lived as the lively Hutchins was given too much space and neatly avoided two defenders before firing past Grant on 41 minutes.
Leatherhead created some early second half chances which Chip's defence dealt with and likewise at the other end where debutant Robert Hughes saw his free kick sail just over the Tanner's crossbar.
Substitute Matt Howard clipped a ball over the home sides defence and Kofi Quartey powered beyond them but his volley screamed past Bradshaw's post. Bradshaw was in action again rushing from his goal to just beat Quartey to another ball that found its way through Leatherhead's backline.
Just when it seemed that the goal's had dried up for the afternoon Agyei pounced with just six minutes left on the clock to give the Tanner's all three points and send Chip's home with nothing for all there effort's.

Chips on the attack v Walton Casuals
MATCH REPORT
Monday 31st August 2009
Chipstead 1 Walton Casuals 1
The 12.00 kick off came far too early for most of the players with the first 15 minutes being a very drab lethargic affair with neither side causing either keeper any problems. As the half wore on Walton slowly took control forcing a number of corners but these were all dealt with by a determined Chipstead defence.
But the last 10 minutes of the half saw the home side come more into the game with Gareth Graham in midfield pulling the strings. Three great crosses from the left hand side delivered in quick succession by Ray Freeman caused panic in the Casuals box but without anyone on the end of them to deliver the killer touch and just before the half time whistle Joe Garner made a great run into the box only to be denied by the sharp reactions of the Casuals keeper who prevented the opening goal.
The second half started much the same as the first with both teams struggling to raise the tempo of the game. Finally in the 55th minute the first real save of the game when the Casuals keeper was forced to tip the ball over from a Graham free kick. Casuals again came back into the game and a fierce shot from the edge of the box forced Martin Grant to make a good save low down to his left.
But the best chance of the game came in the 77th minute when Ray Freeman, Chipstead's most dangerous forward went on a 30 yard run cutting into the box and shooting from only 12 yards only to see his goal bound shot diverted wide by another Chipstead forward following up.
With the game looking to be heading for a draw the deadlock was finally broken in the 88th minute when a poor ball played back to John Wilfort gave him little time to clear and his clearance was charged down by an on rushing Casuals forward who ran through on goal, keeping his composure he slipped the ball inside giving his team mate the easiest of chances to opening the scoring.
But as far as Chipstead were concerned the game was far from over and straight from the re start they went in search of an equaliser forcing two corners and just as it looked as though time would run out Matt Howard hit a thunderbolt from the edge of the box only to see his goal bound shot handled, without hesitation the referee pointed to the spot. Knowing this was almost certainly the last kick of the game Gareth Graham calmly stepped up and drilled the ball low and hard past the despairing dive of the keeper, this in deed proved to be the last action of the day.

High ball in the Chipstead box v Burgess Hill in the FA Cup
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 29th August
Burgess Hill Town 2 - 3 Chipstead
F.A.Cup Preliminary Round
Chipstead won this tight affair because they took their chances or the majority of them when created and just edged the result from their Ryman counterparts who took the three League points at the High Road last week.
It was 15 minutes before any goal worthy effort could be recorded as both sides felt there way with each other. Ray Freeman tested keeper Joe Adams cutting inside his marker and shooting from 20 yards and comfortably collected by Adams.
The home side went ahead with play very even but one piece of good work by Danny Curd turning sharply and firing low and hard in to Chip's goal past Martin Grant on 21 Minutes. Chips responded and good work on the right by Nick White gave Matt Howard a chance testing Adams and forcing a corner. Chips won a free kick just outside the goal area and Freeman's effort rounded the wall but Adam's was on hand to collect.
Freeman was involved again in Chip's opening goal on 29 Minutes when he put in a telling cross from close range which Wayne Grizzle converted. Burgess Hill hit the woodwork just before the break when Danny Gainsford rose above the Chip's defence but could only direct his header on to the crossbar.
Chip's started the livelier after the break and Kofi Quartey gave the visitors the lead before most spectators were back in their places. A good interchange of passes on the left gave Grizzle the chance to pass across Adam's goal and Quartey was there to fire home.
Gainsford had a chance for Hill but scooped his shot over Grant's crossbar and likewise Quartey done the same thing at the other end. Grant was in a race to win a through ball to Curd and just managed to head clear outside his goal area to surpass the danger. Gareth Graham volleyed a 30 yard screamer thundering off Hill's crossbar and the ball fell kindly to Lloyd Cotton who pinpointed a cross field pass to the troublesome Max Bernard who got away from Chip's unsuspecting defence and picked out Curd to claim his second of the afternoon.
It was all even steven stuff until Quartey claimed his brace of goals picking up a flick on from Grant's long clearance and running beyond Hill's defence to slot pass the stranded Adam's to score what turned out to be the winning goal sending Chip's into the next round with a plumb home draw against Ryman Premier challengers Dartford.

MATCH REPORT
Tuesday 25th August 2009
Ramsgate 1-1 Chipstead
Chipstead earnt a well deserved point and were unlucky not to have got all three putting in a gritty performance which was their best so far this season
They took the lead after just four minutes through Kofi Quartey when he converted from Ray Freeman's tricky run down the left leaving two defenders in his wake.
Ramsgate were very lively and Chips had to be on their game to prevent an instant reply. Quartey was in action again proving too tricky for the central defenders who conceded a free kick on the edge of the box.
Ray Freeman stroked the ball around the wall but couldn't beat the home side's keeper who was well positioned to save. Martin Grant was in action making two great saves from the home forwards to keep a clean sheet for Chips up to the interval.
Nathan Campbell was just inches away from increasing Chip's lead with a header that flew just over the bar from Gareth Graham's free kick. The home side might have equalised with a quickly taken free kick that was lobbed over from 12 yards by the home side's central defender who had come forward for the set piece.
John Wilfort made a well timed tackle to prevent a shot from close range testing Grant. Chip's might have gone further ahead but for Ramsgate's centre half clearing off the goal line from a Graham curling corner.
With just seven minutes to go Ramsgate grabbed an equaliser when Warren Schulz turned smartly and drove a fine shot into the far corner at pace to beat the outstretched Grant. Chip's overall performance was very pleasing and if we see the same again on Saturday in the F.A.Cup we could earn a result and a home fixture against the high flying Ryman Premier leaders Dartford.

John Wilfort heads towards goal v Burgess Hill
MATCH REPORT
Saturday 22nd August
Ryman League One South
Chipstead 1 - 2 Burgess Hill
Chipstead made a slow start in this match giving their opponents numerous opportunities to open the scoring. Both Tom Edmonds and Steve Harper squandered early chances before Chris Head was adjudged to have caught Harper in the box conceding a penalty which Harper converted for the visitors opening goal on 28 minutes.
Martin Grant was in action again saving well from Harper and Lloyd Skinner with Danny Curd narrowly missing the target with his head. Chip's settled and Matt Howard's effort was saved by Joe Adams who followed that up by saving John Wilfort's effort from 20 yards.
Chip's fell further behind just before the break when they lost possession in midfield and Lloyd Cotton made ground and sent in a low cross that was equally well met by the charging Lloyd Skinner.
Chip's started the second half with real purpose and grabbed a goal back after a few minutes when Scott Simpson was first to react to Nathan Campbell's shot which rebounded into a crowd of players off a post. Matt Howard fired just wide and Simpson saw another effort saved by the much busier Adam's. Howard watched Adam's save his effort at the second attempt and then hold his firmly struck free kick from 22 yards.
Substitute Reis Aslan had his first shot saved and then fired over Adam's crossbar with a second effort. Chip's dominated almost the whole half but just couldn't produce an equaliser although not for a lack of effort.
This set's up next week's fixture quite nicely when Chip's visit Burgess Hill in the F.A.Cup.

MATCH REPORT
Tuesday 18th August 2009
Ryman League One South
Chipstead 0 - 0 Sittingbourne
Mark Tompkins claimed his first point as Chipstead boss, at the expense of Sittingbourne and a bore draw.
The new manager took to the High Road dugout for the first time competitively, to set up his new-look side to frustrate the Kent outfit.
Four changes were made to the Chips line-up that fell at Corinthian Casuals at the weekend, yet it still contained just three members of last season's squad. And it was visibly clear from the off, as Chips' eagerness and life across the pitch was adjoined with a lack of understanding in attack. Chances were therefore at a premium for both teams.
Brickies central midfielder Colin Richmond conjured up the first goal threat, but Martin Grant was awake to tip his sweet dipping effort over his crossbar. However the keeper then spilled a simple lofted ball, which, if Hicham Akhazzan reacted to, would have certainly caused him major embarrassment. Matt Bourne's strike was deflected away by his own player, as the visitors failed to capitalise on early pressure.
Chips' new and sadly only significant threat soon took stage. One of Alan Matthew's Rory Delap-esque throws was headed over by player-assistant manager John Wilfort in the six-yard box.
In contrast it was Sittingbourne's meaningful breaks making for their core danger, but like their opponents were missing the final pass or finish. Richmond was always the instigator, but he wouldn't have been the only one to have been shocked at how Femi O'Mogbehin and Joe Horlock managed to find the sky.
Yet it was more action than would be in store for the second period.
It wasn't until late on with the legs tiring that the two impressive keepers had anymore real challenge to their respective clean-sheets.
Chipstead went down to 10 men on 78 minutes after Joe Garner received his second yellow for a second late challenge on Richmond- the midfielder suffering for his task of keeping the number 8 quiet.
Out of the blue Chips would get a gaping opportunity to snatch the match. Joe Dowley couldn't deal with a long ball, and it was substitute Neil John who ran clear at goal. Deren Ibrahim made himself big to block the shot, but John will know more than anyone that it was an opportunity any striker should be taking. The striker stabbed at goal again directly after; this time it was much more comfortable for Ibrahim.
Into stoppage time and a fierce 25 yard Mark Chiverton drive crashed down off the crossbar and away off the goal line. And supporters were kept guessing, as there was still time for Chips' Carl Gibbs to head wide from a corner.
