Southern Youth League, Central Division

Chipstead 1 v Sutton United 2

Sutton arrived at the High Road already crowned as divisional winners and went home with three points in a very closely matched game. The first 20 minutes were very even with some fast flowing attractive football but neither side created clear cut chances. Sutton then broke the deadlock when they converted a penalty awarded against young central defender James King. Many by-standers in addition to one of the linesman felt King had clearly played the ball first. Sutton almost added a second 10 minutes later when a shot from just inside the box bounced off the foot of the post and the rebound was deflected wide for a corner. Chipstead stuck to the task well and deservedly equalised just before half time when 15 year old Ryan Robinson collected a square pass from Lee Stripp on the edge of the box and shot low past the keeper from 18 yards.

Chipstead started the second half the brighter and almost took the lead after just 2 minutes but Robinson saw his shot blocked following a corner and then King flashed the rebound just over the bar. Sutton scored the winner after 60 minutes when Chipstead lost possession in central midfield, the ball was transferred quickly wide left and the cross found a forward unmarked in the box who fired home from 10 yards. Chipstead continued to press in search of the equaliser but it was probably Chipstead keeper Ryan Humpage who was the busier, tipping one on to the bar and turning one round the post as Sutton continued to look dangerous on the counter-attack. Unfortunately Chipstead couldn't find the equaliser but it was a good effort from another very young Chipstead line up.

Humpage, Conroy, King, Wood (Nutt), Lilley, Stripp, Childs, Wilgoss, Walsh, Robinson (Lazell), Chin (Thornton).

Chipstead 1 v Epsom and Ewell 5

Epsom came close after just 10 minutes when they hit the crossbar then headed the rebound over from 6 yards. 5 minutes later they had rather more luck when a hopeful forward ball from the half way line bounced fortuitously high over Joe Borer’s head as he advanced from his goal. Chipstead almost replied immediately but Lee Stripp’s shot crept just wide of the post following a good forward ball by Ryan Robinson. A young Chipstead side started to give possession away far too cheaply and Epsom added a second after 20 minutes when the right midfielder cut inside and curled a great left foot shot inside the far upright. Epsom enjoyed another piece of luck 5 minutes later when a tame shot on target managed to squirm away from the keeper’s grasp to give then a 3-0 advantage. Epsom added a fourth just before half time following a good interchange of passes in midfield and a good shot from the edge of the box. Chipstead looked a far better team in the second half and started to get on top but it was Epsom who scored the next goal direct from a free-kick awarded for what looked like a perfectly good tackle. Chipstead scored a consolation after 80 minutes when substitute Mike Walsh retrieved a ball wide left, cut inside and crossed with pace which make-shift centre forward substitute James King audaciously back-heeled in to the net

Borer, Hilton, Nutt, Wood, Lilley, Thornton (Conroy), Childs, Stripp, Wright, Robinson (Walsh), Dean (King). Unused sub Lazell.

Chipstead 4 v St. Andrews 2

St.Andrews arrived late for the game but it was Chipstead who were slow out of the blocks allowing the visitors to completely dominate the first 15 minutes - and during that spell they were unlucky not to score heading over from close range following a corner. Chipstead gradually worked themselves in to the game and midfielder Lewis Barker shot wide after 15 minutes. 5 Minutes later Chipstead took the lead when debutant Lee Stripp chipped home superbly from 25 yards following good approach play by Jake Wilgoss and Charles Wright. 5 minutes later Wilgoss crossed from the right and Barker went close again, volleying over from 20 yards. Wilgoss added a second after 25 minutes when Stripp picked up a pass from Louis Chin, slipped a pass through to Wilgoss who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper. It continued to be one way traffic and Chipstead went close again just 2 minutes later when Wright and Ryan Robinson broke clear of the defence but failed to convert. Luckless Barker then hit the post after 40 minutes but the third goal finally arrived just before half time - Stripp went on a strong run down the left, outpaced the defence and lifted the ball over the keeper. Charles Wright made sure it went in the net just ahead of the recovering defender.

Substitute Alfie Dean made his debut up front in the second half replacing injured defender Ben Walters and after just 5 minutes of the re-start Chipstead had added a fourth. A corner from Dan Liley was met with the head of Robinson only to be cleared off the line. The ball bounced around the 6 yard box but then dropped to central defender Nicky Nutt who calmly struck home. Chipstead however immediately switched off and 2 minutes later St.Andrews pulled one back shooting home from the edge of the box following some good possession football. Straight from the kick-off St.Andrews re-gained possession and waltzed through the hapless Chipstead defence, shooting beyond keeper Ryam Humpage in to the far corner. Panic set in for 5 minutes before Chipstead regained their composure and set about protecting their lead. Dean almost added a fifth for Chipstead just heading over a free-kick in the 89th minute.

Greenwich Borough 3 v Chipstead 0

With players injured, unavailable, suspended or rested following First and Reserve team duties Chipstead took the opportunity to again field a very young side and offered debuts to trialists George Thornton, Bill Hewitt and George Gauld. Unfortunately they lost 3-0 to a strong Greenwich Borough with all three goals being conceded from set-plays.

Chipstead took the game to their hosts straight from the kick-off and after just 2 minutes right back Mike Walsh fired in a cross from wide right which just evaded the arriving Chipstead players at the far post. Greenwich bounced straight back and goalkeeper Ryan Humpage had to be at his best to turn a low shot from the edge of the box round the post. The home team almost opened the scoring just 7 minutes later when a shot from distance rattled the Chipstead woodwork and Chipstead went close when Louis Chin's cross was just headed away as both Charles Wright and George Gauld attacked the ball. Borough opened the scoring after 15 minutes following a controversial foul given against Mike Wright in Chipstead's right back position - Borough whipped in the free-kick which managed to evade defenders and keeper alike and crept in at the far post. Chipstead had a chance to equalise after 25 minutes but Chin shot wide after Gauld had set-back a forward pass. Humpage was called in to action again 10 minutes later, saving well from close range and the forward blasted over the rebound. Greenwich almost took the lead just before half time but the initial free-kick, awarded for a back pass, was scrambled off the line before a shot was thudded against the crossbar and Humpage reacted sharply to tip the rebound shot over the bar.

The Chipstead youngsters came out determined to get back in the game in the second half but it was the stronger Greenwich who scored the next goal, blasting home from close range as Chipstead failed to clear an in-swinging corner. Borough added a third and secured the points from another set-play after 75 minutes. A free-kick wide on the right was headed home from 10 yards. Chipstead continued to work hard but Greenwich were by far the better team on the night and deserved the victory. Despite the defeat there were some creditable Chipstead performances and good experience for the many youngsters in the squad.

Humpage, Walsh, King, Walters, Chin, Thornton, Barker, Wilgoss, Hewitt (Munnery), Gauld (Robinson) Wright.

Raynes Park Vale 1 v Chipstead 2

Once again Chipstead's team was made up entirley of under 17's and under 16's and they came away with 3 points from a tough fixture at Raynes Park. This was a particularly pleasing result given that regulars Joe Gant, Matt Hilton, Joe Lazell and Gregg Pettifor were missing through injury and Ryan Wood, Ben Walters and Alec Brown were rested.

On a heavy pitch Chipstead went behind after just 7 minutes when a defensive mix up between Mike Walsh and keeper Ryan Humpage left the Raynes Park forward with a simple tap in. Play was end to end and Chipstead's Louis Chin called former Chipstead keeper Sam Freeman in to action after 22 minutes with a shot on target from distance. 10 minutes later Chin then put through his under 16 team mate Bane Dundavan who was cruelly brought down just outside the box. The free-kick came to nothing. Raynes Park bounced back from this period of Chipstead pressure and Humpage needed to be at his best to turn a long range shot round the post low to his left. Chipstead almost gained an equaliser just before the break when Anthony Childs slipped a pass through to Dundavan but his shot went the wrong side of the post.

Centre back Nicky Nutt was replaced at half time due to illness and young midfielder Lewis Barker slotted in to the back four with Jake Wilgoss coming on in midfield. Chipstead went close just 5 minutes after the re-start but Childs shot over from 5 yards after a Dan Lilley corner was dropped by the keeper. They did however equalise a minute later when a right wing cross from lively forward Charles Wright was met superbly by Chin at the far post and he fired past the keeper. Unfortunately, Chipstead relaxed too much and Raynes Park almost restored their lead 3 minutes later but Humpage saved down by his right hand post and the loose ball was hacked off the line as the forwards closed in. Ryan Robinson replaced Dundavan after 60 minutes and he was instrumental in Chipstead's second goal - he received a ball to feet from midfield, turned sharply and slotted a ball through to Wright who smashed home from 12 yards. Wright almost added his second just 2 minutes later following a cross from Chin but keeper Freeman was equal to the task and saved well. Raynes Park pushed players forward in search of the equaliser and Chipstead almost caught them on the break on a couple of occasions. The Chipstead back four of Mike Walsh, James King, Lewis Barker and Dan Lilley remained firm for the last 15 minutes and all 3 points were secured.

Humpage (Borer), Walsh, King, Nutt (Wilgoss), Lilley, Tait, Childs, Barker, Chin, Wright, Dundavan (Robinson).

Thursday 5th March

Southern Youth League, Central Division

Colliers Wood United 2 v Chipstead 0

Chipstead lost 2-0 away to Colliers Wood in a game they should have won by 2 or 3 clear goals. Chipstead's team was made up entirley of under 17's and under 16's with Will Tait making his debut following impressive performances for the under 17's. Joe Gant, Ryan Wood, Ben Walters, Matt Hilton and Gregg Pettifor were all missing through injury. Alec Brown was not considered due to First team commitments.

Chipstead's Mike Walsh went close after just 10 minutes but the home keeper just managed to tip his shot over the bar. 2 minutes later Chipstead again threatened to take an early lead when forward Charles Wright just failed to get on the end of a Louis Chin cross. Colliers Wood then oipened to scoring against the run of play when a hopeful long ball down the left was controlled by the forward who cut inside and smashed one home in to the top corner. Chipstead continued to dominate possession by Wood looked very threatening on the break making very good use of their quick forwards. After 35 minutes Chipstead's Dan Lilley knocked in a free-kick from wide left but midfielder Anthony Childs saw his header saved by the keeper. Chipstead kept up the pressure in search of an equaliser before half time and after 40 minutes Wright shot wide after being set free by Lilley.

Chipstead came out even more determined in the second half and completely dominated proceedings. After just 2 minutes Forward Ryan Robinson had his shot saved after turning sharply in the box and 5 minutes later a Dan Lilley strike from 25 yards just went wide of the post. Wood should have added a second after 60 minutes but  Chipstead somehow managed to keep the ball out of their net during a goalmouth scramble, twice clearing the ball off the line. Midfielder Jake Wilgoss went close to getting the equaliser after 70 minutes but his shot was straight at the keeper following good play from Walsh and 10 minutes later substitute Bane Dundavan was thwarted by a great last ditch tackle when he was through on goal. Colliers Wood added a second on the stroke of full time when the forward swivelled on a ball delivered in to the box and fired home, high in to the net.

Borer (Humpage), Tait (Dundavan), Lilley, Nutt, King, Walsh, Childs, (Barker) Wilgoss, Chin, Robinson, Wright. Unused subs Munnery, Lazell.

Chipstead 3 v Colliers Wood United 1

Three second half goals secured the points for Chipstead at home to Colliers Wood United in the Central Division of the Southern Youth League. Chipstead had the ball in the net after just 2 minutes but forward Ryan Robinson was ruled off-side after being put through by midfielder Anthony Childs. The visitors hit straight back and Chipstead keeper Joe Borer had to get down smartly to gather a low shot in the centre of the goal. Wood's Tom Brice almost set up the opener after 20 minutes but his right wing cross was swept over from just 8 yards. The visitors did then take the lead 5 minutes later when right back Ben Walters was caught in possession in the Colliers Wood half and a quick forward ball created a one-on-one in the Chipstead defence and Pierro McGuire calmly curled a left foot shot round the keeper and in to the net. Wood almost added a second 2 minutes later but Borer saved well down at his near post. Chipstead then bounced back and after 35 minutes Louis Chin cut in side but saw his shot well saved by the visiting keeper. Almost immediately, Mike Walsh vollied over from a long throw and Anthony Childs vollied high and wide following good approach play. Just before the half time whistle a free-kick from Walsh was headed straight at the keeper so Chipstead's late attempts to draw level were thwarted as they went in for the break.

At half time Gregg Pettifor replaced the injured Robinson and under 16 Lewis Barker was brought on for Ryan Wood who was suffering from a virus. Chipstead certainly needed to raise the tempo in the second half and within 12 minutes of the re-start a ball in to the box following a corner evaded forwards and defenders alike and luckily dribbled over the line at the far post. Ben Walters claimed last touch of the ball. After 60 minutes centre back Nicky Nutt played a free-kick forward for Pettifor who superbly held off the defender in the box before setting up Childs who drilled home from 15 yards. Chipstead kept the tempo high and gradually started to dominate play, adding a third after 75 minutes. Mike Walsh crossed superbly from the left, Pettifor's header was palmed away by the keeper but another cross came in from the right and this time Pettifor's header hit a defender before going in to the net. Colliers Wood looked pretty dispirited and Chipstead may have added more but it ended a deserved 3-1 victory to Chipstead on the night.

Borer, Walters, Hilton, Nutt, Wood (Barker), Walsh, Childs (King), Wilgoss, Chin, Robinson (Pettifor), Dundavan. Subs not used Wright.

Chipstead 1 v Epsom and Ewell 1

Game Abandoned after 45 minutes

With a light covering of snow on the ground Epsom kicked off the Central Division league match at the High Road. Chipstead's Dan Lilley almost scored the first goal after just 5 minutes when he shot narrowly over from a 30 yard free-kick. Just 2 minutes later forward Ryan Robinson was put through superbly by left midfielder Louis Chin but his under-hit shot was saved by Keeper Ed Humphries. Chipstead finally got the goal that was threatening after 8 minutes when Epsom failed to clear a ball which was bobbling around in their box and under 16 Bane Dundavan who was enjoying his first start, latched on to the loose ball and dispatched from 10 yards. Robinson had another chance after 20 minutes but once again Humphries pulled off a save low down to his right. As the snow started to fall, Epsom began to get themselves into the game and started to gain better possession of the ball. After 35 minutes they worked an opening on the left but the forward shot wide of the near post. Chipstead's Robinson had another two chances in quick succession where he turned sharply but on both occasions his shot went wide of the post. Epsom then drew level after 40 minutes following an interchange of passes down the left wing. Jimmy Majinya crossed hard and low in to the box and Keeper Gant could only parry the ball in to the path of the oncomimg forward. As the snow started to get heavier Robinson had another chance to get Chipstead's second but this time his goalbound shot was saved by Humphries high to his left. The half time whistle blew with the game neatly poised at 1-1. Epsom had enjoyed better possession of the ball but Chipstead had created the greater and better chances.

During the half time interval Referee Darren Wilson consulted both Managers and it was decided that the game should be abandoned because the officials were struggling to see the touchlines and there were concerns about everybody getting home safely.

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup, Second Round

Chipstead 0 v Sutton United 4

Chipstead crashed out of the Southern Youth League Cup being beaten at home 4-0 by a strong Sutton United. The game was very even for the first 20 minutes with neither side creating goal scoring opportunities. It was Chipstead's John Breach who then had the first half-chance - his shot from long range fumbled by McLoughlin in the Sutton goal but the keeper managed to pounce on the loose ball. 3 minutes later Sutton's Humphries shot wide of the near post and Chipstead's Alec Brown did likewise 5 minutes later. The game continued to ebb and flow and on the half hour Sutton should have taken the lead but the forward lifted the ball over the bar from within the 6 yard area. Sutton finally got the ball in the net just before half time but the player at the far post was in an offside position when he converted the left wing cross.

Chipstead were forced to make a change at half time, Mike Walsh replacing the injured Joe Lazell. The first 10 minutes of the second half remained very tight, substitute Walsh seeing his shot comfortably saved and at the other end keeper Joe Gant and debutant Nicky Nutt did well to smother shots from within the box. The deadlock was finally broken in the 55th minute when a Sutton cross from the right was weakly headed clear and Young shot home from the edge of the box. Nutt had to be withdrawn suffering from lack of match practice and unfortunately just 5 minutes later Chipstead conceded a second when a left wing corner was bundled in to the net by James after what looked like a foul on the Chipstead keeper. The referee allowed the goal to stand. Chipstead worked hard to get themselves back in the game but were caught on the counter-attack and the impressive James shot strongly in to the net from the edge of the area. Chipstead continued to work hard but gave away possession far to easily and Sutton put the game beyond any doubt just 5 minutes later, Young netting from within the box following a defensive mis-kick in the area. The last 20 minutes was fairly even but if anything it looked more likely that Sutton would further increase their lead but good saves from Gant and solid defending from Ryan Wood and Matt Hilton prevented a rout.

Southern Youth League, Central division

Epsom and Ewell 2 v Chipstead 1

Chipstead fielded a very young side with no under 18's in the starting line-up. Under 16 central midfielder Lewis Barker made his debut and performed admirably before being withdrawn with sore calfs. Other under 16's James King, Louis Chin and Ryan Robinson all played full 90 minutes. Under 18's Yannick Foh and Joe Lazell came on in the second half together wIth under 17 trialist Jake Lawless.

The first 15 minutes were very even with neither side creating goal scoring opportunities. It was the visitors who had the first chance after 17 minutes when a through ball from Louis Chin found Jake Wilgoss free in the box. He got his shot away which the keeper parried before recovering to be first to the lose ball. After 25 minutes Chipstead took the lead when Wilgoss hit a superb diagonal ball from right to left finding Gregg Pettifor in the corner of the 18 yard box. Pettifor chested it down and lifted it over the advancing defender before clinically finishing low inside the near post. Epsom worked hard to get themselves back in the game and 10 minutes later Chipstead keeper Joe Borer had to be alert to turn an effort from 20 yards smartly round the post. Epsom grabbed the equaliser after 39 minutes direct from a free-kick conceded just outside the box in a central postion. The Epsom player coolly curved the ball round the wall and in to the right hand side of the goal with Keeper Borer stranded. Epsom were unlucky not to take the lead just before half time when the forward broke clear of the defence and rounded the keeper but a great recovery run from 16 year old central defender James King enabled him to deny the goal with a last ditch tackle.

Chipstead started the second half strongly and youngsters Louis Chin and Ryan Robinson neatly exchanged passes giving Robinson a clear shot on goal. Unfortunately he lifted the ball over the bar when he should have done better. Impressive defender Ryan Wood was withdrawn after 60 minutes having played for the Reserves the night before and debutant Lewis Barker was withdrawn 5 minutes later following an admirable first outing. Epsom scored the winner after 67 minutes with a screamer from 35 yards. Possession was carelessly lost by Chipstead in the centre circle, played 10 yards forward and the midfielder dispatched the ball ferociously in to the far corner. Chipstead enjoyed most of the attacking play for the remainder of the game, Epsom content to sit back and hit on the break. It looked like Chipstead had earned a deserved equaliser after 80 minutes when Pettifor wriggled free in the box, struck his shot past the keeper but a bad bounce took the ball off course hiiting the post before being hacked to safety.

Chipstead 0 v Croydon 2

A goal in either half deservedly won Croydon all three points in their clash away to Chipstead at the High Road. Chipstead fielded a very young team due to injuries (Gregg Pettifor, Charles Wright, Jake Wilgoss and TJ Ryan), illness (Matt Hilton and Ben Walters) and players being rested following First and Reserve team duties (Alec Brown and Joe Gant). This meant call-ups for promising under 16 players James King and Bane Dundavan. Chipstead therefore started with 4 under 16's, 7 under 17's and only 3 under 18's in the squad. Having said that, Chipstead started the brighter of the two teams and midfielder Mike Walsh had a great opportunity to open the scoring after just 5 minutes after being put through by Ryan Robinson for a one on one with the keeper. The angle was very tight and the keeper pulled off a good save to keep the scores even. Chipstead threatened again 5 minutes later when Joe Lazell won the ball in midfield, slipped a pass forward for Robinson who got his shot off despite obviously being pulled back in the box. The referee ignored appeals for a penalty and waved play on after the keeper had made the save. Croydon bounced back and took the lead after 12 minutes. Lack of pressure from Chipstead gave the Croydon midfielder too much time on the ball and his side footed shot from distance superbly found the top corner giving Chipstead keeper Joe Borer no chance. Chipstead worked hard to reply and central midfielder Anthony Childs went close a few minutes later when he vollied wide after a Dan Lilley free-kick was headed out to the edge of the box. Croydon had the ball in the net after half an hour but the forward was clearly in an off-side postion deep in the penalty box.

Chipstead again made a good start to the half and were unfortunate to concede a second gaol after 52 minutes. Chipstead didn't particularly defend a throw very well high up on their left hand side but the midfielders attempted cross got a slight defelection as the player tried to make the tackle and it drifted in to the far corner of the goal again giving the keeper no chance. Chipstead continued to threaten and forward John Breach went closest when he hit the post after 70 minutes after stealing the ball following a mistake by the keeper. Croydon immediately responded and influential Jake Pitt headed over when perhaps he should have hit the target. Croydon played time out and now jump ahead of Chipstead in to second place in the table but despite the defeat this was a very creditable performance from a young and maturing Chipstead side.

Under 18 Floodlit Midweek Surrey County Cup

Kingstonian 4 v Chipstead 0

Chipstead crashed out of the Surrey midweek under 18 County Cup losing 4-0 to Kingsonian away from home. Honours were fairly even in the first half, Kingstonian enjoyed the greater share of the possession but Chipstead looked dangerous on the break. Kingstonian almost took the lead after 20 minutes but Chipstead keeper Joe Gant went full length to turn the ball around the post. It looked like the first half was going to remain goalless but after 35 minutes Chipstead right back Ben Walters got caught in possession just inside his own half, Kingstonian broke down the left wing and the cross was well finished from just outside the 6 yard box. Chipstead bounced back and almost equalised 5 minutes later after they had won their first corner of the half - Mike Walsh's corner was collected by skipper Jack Munnery whose goalbound shot was well saved but unfortunately the rebound fell to Matt Hilton's weaker foot and his shot sailed over the bar from 6 yards. Immediately following, Kingstonian raced to the other end of the pitch and Gant was called upon to pull out another good save down at his right hand post.

The very start of the second half was again even but after 50 minutes central midfielder TJ Ryan went in for a very heavy challenge with his opposite number. It looked like Chipstead had earned a free-kick but the referee awarded the kick the other way and Ryan was left with an extremely painful knee injury which resulted in him being stretchered off and taken to hospital by ambulance. To add insult to injury, Chipstead keeper Joe Gant was then heavily challenged by the centre back as he came to catch the cross from the free-kick and whilst he was lying prostrate in the 6 yard box Kingstonian kicked the ball in to the empty net. Unbelievably the referee allowed the goal to stand as Gant nursed a sore jaw and a loose tooth.

Chipstead worked hard to get back in the game but it was Kingstonian who almost scored the next goal when the centre forward skimmed the crossbar after 66 minutes. Unfortunately the game then seemed to lapse in to a farce as the referee continued to allow Kingstonian to kick the ball away and encroach at free-kicks. Too often he seemed to make wrong decisions at the expense of both teams and he started to hand out yellow cards for innoculous challenges whilst he seemed to let other worse offences go unpunished. In the last 10 minutes Chipstead threw caution to the wind playing with 3 at the back and pushing substitute Charles Wright up front. Chipstead however lost possession in midfield and the forward rounded the keeper before slotting home Kingstonian's third. The final 5 minutes then witnessed another unbelievable event as midfielder Joe Lazell was fouled on the touchline right in front of the dug-outs. The referee deemed that the challenge was fair and awarded a Kingstonian throw. However the referee and the Kingstonian players then seemed incapable of re-starting the game although it was clear to all that the injured player was off the pitch whilst he was being treated. Consequently Chipstead finished the game with only 10 men on the pitch and they again got caught after 87 minutes as they tried to break from midfield and substitute keeper Joe Borer could do nothing to stop the shot that was drilled in to the corner.

At the final whistle the referee enjoyed a joke with some of the Kingstonian players in the centre circle whilst Chipstead minds focussed on the well being of the unfortunate TJ Ryan. The Chipstead staff then carried Joe Lazell off the pitch, suffering from a calf injury whilst Joe Gant searched for his tooth in the muddy penalty area.

Southern Youth League, Central Division

Chipstead 1 v Greenwich Borough 0

Chipstead's Charles Wright scored in the last 10 minutes to win all 3 points against Greenwich Borough in the Central Division of the Southern Youth League. The visitors started brightly and Chipstead keeper Joe Gant did well to get fully behind a low shot from 20 yards which skidded off the wet turf. Borough played some good flowing football and enjoyed the lion's share of the possession restricting Chipstead to the counter-attack. But it was Chipstead who should have taken the lead after 20 minutes - Joe Lazell won a free-kick in midfield, Anthony Childs took it quickly putting in Ryan Robinson who was fouled in the box as he cut inside. Louis Chin stepped up to take the kick but it fortuitously hit the legs of keeper Daniel Coles. The linesman however adjudged that Coles had moved before the kick was taken so the ref ordered a re-take. Chin stepped up once more and this time Coles dived wide to his left to again keep the ball out of the net. Borough continued to dominate possession without creating any cear cut chances. The closest they came was in the 35th minute, shooting over from just outside the box. Chipstead almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Robinson started a break-away, put in his strike partner John Breach whose vicious shot was pushed away by the keeper.

Possession was much more even in the second half and the game flowed end to end as both teams went in search of the opening goal, but keepers Gant and Coles got behind everything that was thrown at them. After 75 minutes Borough won a corner on the left which was headed goalward but cleared off the line by left back Dan Lilley. The visitors strongly claimed that the ball had crossed the line but on the advice of the linesman who was standing on the goalline the referee waved play on. Cruelly, Chipstead scored the winner 5 minutes later when two of their substitutes combined neatly to break the deadlock - TJ Ryan won the ball in midfield, picked out the run of Charles Wright who controlled the ball by flicking it in to his own path, advanced on the goal and smashed a left footed shot past the keeper from just inside the box.

Borough would have been disappointed not to have won a point but it was a good, patient performance by Chipstead and they earned that much sought after clean sheet which had elluded them all season.

Monday 3rd November

Southern Youth League, Central Division

Croydon 1 v Chipstead 2

Chipstead took all three points in a close encounter away to Croydon in the Central Division of the Southern Youth League. Croydon enjoyed the lion's share of the early pressure but failed to create any good goal scoring opportunities. Resolute defending from the visitors ensured the game remain goalless in the opening 20 minutes but it was Chipstead who almost took the lead after 25 minutes when Jake Wilgoss operating wide on the left, cut inside and hit a shot that struck the upright with the keeper no-where. A minute later Chipstead again hit the woodwork when forward Ryan Robinson weaved past two defenders and despite being held back shot beyond the keeper. Croydon fought their way back in to the game and after 38 minutes lively forward Stefan Payne was sythed down on the edge of the box by central defender Jack Munnery. Unfortunately for Croydon the free-kick was wasted.

Chipstead were forced to replace Charles Wright at half time through injury bringing on Louis Chin and switching Wilgoss to the right. Chipstead came flying out of the blocks and took the lead just 2 minutes after the re-start. Wilgoss stepped inside a lunging challenge on the touchline and fired in a low and hard cross which the defender managed to head in to his own goal whilst under heavy pressure. Croydon continued to threaten and equalised after 63 minutes when Payne latched on to a weak goal-kick and ran forward before slotting the ball passed the advancing keeper. As the game entered the final 15 minutes Chipstead started to dominate and Alec Brown went very close with a lob from 25 yards. Chipstead eventually regained the lead after 78 minutes when Chin gathered the ball 30 yards from goal, jinked past one defender before unleashing a stinging shot which the keeper did well to save. Unfortunately for Croydon, Robinson was first to react and fired the ball in to the net from 8 yards. Croydon threw caution to the wind in search of an eqauliser but the Chipstead defence of Ben Walters, skipper Munnery, Matt Hilton and Ryan Wood continued to remain firm. Hilton was particularly impressive. Chipstead should have scored a couple more before the final whistle hitting Croydon regularly on the break - Wilgoss slid one across the goal line from wide right and forward John Breach shot high and wide when through for a one on one with the keeper. In all, a very good winning perfomance from Chipstead against a very stroing Croydon outfit.

St. Andrews 1 v Chipstead 10

The hosts started brightly and took the game to the visitors in the first couple of minutes but thereafter it was all one way traffic. Chipstead took the lead after just 5 minutes when an in-swinging free-kick from left back Dan Lilley wide on the right was fumbled by the keeper and Alec Brown was on hand to tap home from close range. Lilley rattled the crossbar from a free-kick just 5 minutes later but it was 15 year old striker Ryan Robinson who converted the second after 14 minutes when he finished at the near post following a good run and cross from skipper and right back Jack Munnery. Chipstead's third was scored from the penalty spot by Yannick Foh after Robinson was fouled just inside the box and Robinson scored his second on the half hour, this time with his head following another Munnery surge down the right and pin point cross from the bye-line. Lilley again rattled the crossbar from a fee-kick before Foh added a fifth just before half time finishing on the far post following a good run and cross from Mike Walsh down the left wing.

The scoring spree continued soon after the re-start when Robinson claimed his hat-trick after 52 minutes pouncing on a loose ball inside the box. 2 minutes later striker Charles Wright added the seventh swivelling in the box to strike home. To their credit St. Andrews stuck to the task and after 62 minutes capitalised on a break-away and the striker confidently lifted the ball over the advancing Joe Gant. Normal service was resumed just 10 minutes later when Walsh again broke down the left and with several players queuing up in the box, he squared it to Robinson who fired in to the top of the net to claim his fourth of the evening. Chipstead then added a ninth when substitutes Joe Lazell and TJ Ryan combined well before setting up Walsh who ran through and rounded the keeper before passing the ball in to the net. Lazell went close to adding the tenth but his shot from just inside the box was well saved by the keeper who certainly needed something to cheer himself up. The tenth came 2 minutes later when a pass from Foh put Wright in the clear who advanced on the keeper before slotting home.

An impressive performance from Chipstead against a side who, on this performance, were clearly unable to compete at this standard of football - even so Chipstead still failed to keeep a clean sheet. One very positive point of note was that TJ Ryan played the last 20 minutes, signifying his return from a long injury lay off.

FA Youth Cup, Second Round Qualifying

Chipstead 0 v Chatham Town 1

Chipstead went down 1-0 to a second half Chatham Town goal to make an exit from the FA Youth Cup. Chipstead took the game to the visitors from the off and nearly took the lead after just 5 minutes when a corner from the left caused chaos in the box and the keeper had to make two good saves from Matt Hilton and John Breach. Chipstead continued to play most of the game in the opposition half and continued to threaten at every set play. A snap shot from right midfielder Yannick Foh after 35 minutes needed to be smartly turned round the post following a left wing cross from Mike Walsh and 5 minutes later left back Dan Lilley smashed a shot from 35 yards which the keeper tipped over the bar. Chipstead enjoyed a lot of first half pressure completely dominating the midfield areas but ominously went in at half time with the score still 0-0.

Chatham got into the game much more in the second half and Chipstead were forced to withdraw Mike Walsh after 54 minutes due to injury. Chatham almost took the lead after 60 minutes but a free-kick from the right squirmed its way across the box and was eventually cleared at the far post by Foh. The visitors fortuitously took the lead after 70 minutes - there was no apparent danger but an erroneous inside pass in the Chipstead defence went straight to the opposition who slipped the ball to the dangerous Ali Nwachkwu who finished with aplomb. Chipstead pushed another player up front and started to chase the game and had the ball in the net after 85 minutes but Alec Brown was flagged for offside. The referee then brought the play back for a Chipstead free-kick on the edge of the box and Brown just skimmed the upright with a superbly taken free-kick. Chipstead continued to press and almost got caught on the break on a couple of occasions but the score remained 1-0 as Chatham started to employ some very disappointing time-wasting tactics.

Chipstead 1 v Raynes Park Vale 3

Chipstead almost opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when forward Ryan Robinson's shot from close range was blocked, following an Alec Brown cross. Raynes Park should have scored after 15 minutes but the forward woefully screwed his shot wide when it looked easier to score. Chipstead went close again on the half hour when a chip from Brown was headed on by Robinson but just wide of the left upright. Chipstead central defender Jack Munnery was in outstanding form in the Chipstead defence and time after time he snuffed out attacks with some tough tackling to ensure the teams went in at half time 0-0.

Chipstead then got caught cold (again) after the re-start, the visitors scoring after just 5 minutes when a ball from the left was dutifully dispatched into the bottom corner. Chipstead almost responded immediately but Louis Chin saw his first time shot come back off the post after he had collected a defensive header just outside the box. 15 minutes later Chipstead again rattled the woodwork this time through Charles Wright who's 25 yard shot crashed against the crossbar. Chipstead got their just deserts 5 minutes later when Chin again retrieved a ball cleared out of the area and skilfully returned it in to the bottom corner of the goal. Again Chipstead relaxed and the vistors re-took the lead on 75 minutes when a free-kick was given away in a dangerous position 10 yards outside the box and was cleverly curled around the defensive wall past the outstretched arm of Gant in the Chipstead goal. Chipstead pressed hard for another equaliser but conceded a third after 80 minutes when good passing from Vale opened up the defence and the shot was calmly placed past the advancing keeper.

In all, a below par performance from Chipstead who must find better form in order to progress in next week's FA youth Cup match.

FA Youth Cup, First Round Qualifying

Chipsted 2 v Croydon 1

Chipstead over-came a very strong Croydon 2-1 to progress to the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup. Both sides started very brightly and the football flowed from end to end as both teams tried to create an opening. Croydon almost took the lead after 18 minutes when their left winger rounded keeper Joe Gant only to see his shot cleared off the line by outstanding centre back Ryan Wood. Chipstead created the next goal scoring opportunity on the half hour when Alec Brown and Jake Wilgoss combined down the right but centre forward Gregg Pettifor unluckily shot over from the cross. Pettifor again went close 2 minutes later but couldn't quite connect properly from another Wilgoss cross. Brown then saw his header saved by the keeper following a Dan Lilley free-kick but Croydon bounced straight back and had a great chance to snatch the lead but the header at the far post went wide of the goal when the forward should have done better. Chipstead punished the visitors for their error - John Breach scoring the opening goal after receiving an in-field ball from Wilgoss, skipping past the last defender and smashing the ball home. Still reeling from the set-back, Croydon conceded a second on the stroke of half time when Anthony Childs won possession in centre midfield, passed to Lilley who hit a good diagonal ball which Brown met with his head just ahead of the keeper, setting himself up for a simple tap-in.

The second half followed the same pattern with both teams searching for goal scoring opportunities. Croydon thought they had got themselves back in the game after 60 minutes when a free-kick from the left was headed down and dispatched to the far corner of the net. Unfortunately the centre forward was clearly in an off-side position in the centre of the goal. Croydon continued to press as both sides introduced substitutes in to the fray. The visitors started to gain a lion's share of the possession as Chipstead started to sit back to defend their lead and keepr Gant brilliantly finger-tipped a powerful shot over the bar to maintain Chipstead's two goal advantage. Croydon eventually got the break they deserved after 83 minutes when a hopeful long ball over the top was unfortunately mis-kicked by Gant presenting the chasing Billy McKay with an open goal. With just 7 minutes remaining Croydon threw everything at Chipstead, including their goalkeeper coming up for corners, but the Chipstead defence of Joe Gant, Yannick Foh, Matt Hilton, Ryan Wood and Dan Lilley remained resolute and the result takes them through to the next round and a home tie against Chatham Town.

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup, First Round

Chipstead 3  v South Park 1

Chipstead took a 18th minutes lead when 15 year old Louis Chin swept home a cross from Gregg Pettifor following good right wing approach play by Yannick Foh and Jake Wilgoss. Dan Lilley increased the lead just before the half hour when he audaciously flicked the ball up with his left foot and then vollied home from about 30 yards.

Chipstead started the second half slowly and South Park worked hard to try and get themselves back in the game. Chances fell at both ends and Chipstead's central midfielder Alec Brown hit the post when his lob was slightly deflected on to the post. South Park pulled one back after 60 minutes when loss of possession mid-way in the Chipstead half led to a through ball which was converted with a shot across keeper Joe Borer and in to the far corner. 15 minutes later Chipstead put the tie beyond doubt when a great diagonal ball from Lilley released Pettifor who ran through two defenders before smashing the ball high in to the net from just inside the box. In the last 10 minutes keeper Borer pulled off a great save with his feet to prevent any thoughts of a come-back and to give Chipstead passage in to the next round where they face a strong Sutton United.

FA Youth Cup, Preliminary Round

Chipstead 4  v Haywards Heath Town 1

Chipstead progressed to the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup beating Haywards Heath Town 4-1 at home. Heath took the game to Chipstead right from the first whistle and pinned the home team in their own half for the opening 5 minutes - but it was Chipstead who scored the first goal after 7 minutes when Heath failed to clear a corner and following a scramble in the box John Breach was on hand to net from 10 yards. Breach again went close a minute later shooting over from outside the box and dominant midfielder Alec Brown saw a volley fizz over the bar just 10 minutes later. Chipstead added their second on the half hour after Charles Wright won a fifty-fifty in his own half before passing to Gregg Pettifor who glided past two defenders and the goalkeeper before side-footing home. Chipstead put the game beyond doubt in the 37th minute when 15 year old Louis Chin superbly won possession mid-way in the Heath half and advanced 10 yards before smashing one in to the roof of the net from about 30 yards.

Chipstead (once again) got caught napping just after the re-start when they failed to properly clear a corner and a spirted Heath pulled one back. John Breach almost restored Chipstead's three goal advantage in the 54th minute when his snap-shot was spilled by the keeper but went out for a corner. Town tried desperately to get back in the game but the Chipstead back four of Walters, Hilton, Wood and Lilley comfortably stiffled their efforts and the home side eventually added a fourth goal in the 84 minute - Alec Brown layed a ball wide to substitute Mike Walsh whose goal-bound shot was deliberately handled by a defender. The player was sent off and Brown confidently stepped up to score the penalty. Chipstead face Croydon at home in the next round.

Sutton United 5 v Chipstead 2

Kicking against a very strong wind Chipstead took the lead after just 3 minutes when a Mike Walsh cross caused panic in the Sutton box and a defender smashed the ball into the face of his own keeper and it rebounded in to the net. 2 minutes later Chipstead almost increased their lead but Greg Pettifor's shot rattled the crossbar and Louis Chin's follow up was blocked by a defender. Sutton equalised with their next attack, Jonny Humphreys heading home an unchallenged cross from George Ansell. 2 minutes later Chipstead restored their lead when Alec Brown's header from a Dan Lilley free-kick was cleared off the line only for John Breach to head back across goal and this time Brown was not to be denied. Sutton cleared another one off their goal line following a Mike Walsh shot but then equalised on the half hour when Sonni James just beat keeper Joe Gant to a through ball in to the box. Chipstead thought they had restored the lead just 5 minutes later but Pettifor's strike on goal was correctly ruled out for hand ball. 2 minutes before the break Sutton fortuitously took the lead when their left winger forced the ball home at the far post whilst clearly in an off-side position.

The wind had noticeably dropped by the start of the second half and Sutton caught Chipstead cold scoring the decisive fourth goal just 4 minutes after the re-start following good play down the right. Sutton then started to dominate possession and had several narrow misses following very good forward runs in to the channels. Chipstead were largely restricted to break-aways but worked hard in order to try and get themselves back in the game. They played three at the back for the last 20 minutes, introducing substitute Rowan Liburd as a third striker. Generally, however, they squandered possession far too often and Sutton finally made sure of the points when they scored with 8 minutes remaining following loss of possession in the centre circle.

Chipstead 8 v Molesey 1

Chipstead opened the scoring after just 2 minutes when Greg Pettifor received a throw-in from Mike Walsh and set up strike partner John Breach for a close range finish. Breach scored his second just 4 minutes later when Pettifor dribbled superbly in to the box after collecting a pass from right back Yannick Foh, before setting Breach up to side foot home from 8 yards. Left Back Dan Lilley almost added a third just before the half hour when his clever free-kick from 20 yards was tipped over by the visiting keeper Dan Hatton. Molesey started to recover from the early shock and pulled one back after 30 minutes when the Chipstead centre backs got caught wrong side and the forward finished from 12 yards. Molesey than had a good chance to equalise direct from a corner but headed over. Unfortunately Molesey had a player sent off 10 minutes before the break, receiving a straight red for a dangerous tackle which obviously meant the second halfwas going to be a challenge.

Chipstead emerged rampant for the second half and 15 year old left midfielder Louis Chin vollied home first time from the edge of the box following a diagonal ball from impressive central midfielder Anthony Childs. Chipstead killed off any thoughts of a comeback 12 minutes later when Foh fed left footed centre back Ryan Wood who drilled a 60 yard pass in to the path of Pettifor who advanced before lifting the ball over the diving keeper. Pettifor came close again 10 minutes later but his shot rebounded off the goalie only to be collected by skipper Alec Brown who calmly dinked the ball home from 25 yards. Pettifor claimed his second in the 82nd minute when substitute striker Charles Wright dribbled down the right before passing to Pettifor who coolly curled the ball around the keeper. Substitute Joe Lazell almost got himself on the score sheet but was ajudged to be off-side when put through by Brown. Pettifor claimed his hat-trick 9 minutes later when he again combined with Wright before clinically finishing from within the penalty box. Alec Brown helped himself to his second and Chipstead's eighth with just a minute to go chipping home off the bar and post following good work by Wright and debutant substitute Jake Wilgoss.

Molesey 2 v Chipstead 2

The first half was very even and the teams went in at the break with the score still 0-0. Molesey took the lead just 4 minutes in to the second half when a ball in to the box from wide on the right was mis-controlled and the forward managed to toe the lose ball past Joe Gant in the Chipstead goal. Chipstead equalised just 3 minutes later when a John Breach overhead kick from a right wing Yannick Foh throw-in was confidently headed home by impressive central midfielder Ben Walters. Chipstead took the lead 5 minutes later through Charles Wright - he neatly finished off a sweeping move which started with a defensive clearance from Matt Hilton and ended with Wright using his blistering pace to dribble and score after latching on to a great through ball from John Breach. Unfortunately Chipstead then switched off and Molesey drew level within a minute following a Chipstead corner and a couple of basic defensive errors as Molesey hit quickly on the counter-attack. Later in the game substitute Greg Pettifor hit the post for Chipstead and both Ben Walters and Louis Chin went very close with shots from outside the box. All in all, a game Chipstead should have won but a decent enough start to the season from a very young squad.

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup Final

Chipstead 1 v Sutton United 5

Chipstead were hit with 4 goals in the last 15 minutes losing 5-1 to Sutton United in the Final of the Southern Youth League Challenge Cup.

Chipstead suffered bad luck before a ball was even kicked losing midfielder Ashley Buchmann through illness and defender Sotonye Ogan through school commitments. James Fotheringham also started the game on tablets suffering with a nasty ear infection and defender Darren Millard played but was not back to full fitness following a two week lay off with hip and head injuries.

Having said that, it was Chipstead who opened the scoring after 20 minutes when forward Troy Murray put in a cross from the right following a throw-in which foxed the keeper as it sailed in at the far post. 5 minutes later Chipstead suffered a big blow when they lost influential central midfielder Alec Brown with an ankle injury. Chipstead played with 10 men for 10 minutes whilst Brown underwent treatment but despite coming back on and hobbling around for 5 minutes he had to be withdrawn. Sutton equalised in the 5th minute of first half stoppage time when Jersen Dos Santos shot on the run and Billy Dunn was first to react as the ball came back off keeper Joe Gant. There wasn't even enough time for Chipstead to re-start the game as the referee blew for half time.

Honours were fairly even in the second half although Sutton did start to gain a greater share of the possession and play the better football. The next goal finally arrived after 75 minutes when a cross from the left was converted even though the wide player looked at least a couple of yards offside when he received the ball. A few minutes later centre back Darren Millard had to be withdrawn through injury causing another major reshuffle of the Chipstead pack. Almost immediately Sutton added a third when a very hopeful high ball in to the box from the right was not fully gathered and fell very kindly for a simple tap in. Chipstead obviously then had to chase the game and got hit twice on the break with runs down the wings and crosses for headed goals from Jonny Humphreys. Just to add insult to injury the fifth goal looked offside as well.

Skipper Sam Marks had an exceptional game at the heart of the Chipstead defence and made several vital tackles to break up attacks and prevent shots on goal. Well done Sam, to my mind quite easily the man of the match.

In all Sutton deserved to win the game, it was just very unfortunate that Chipstead had lost two boys before the game even started, had another two returning from illness/injury and then had to withdraw two during the game for injury. Given this and given that Chipstead fielded 5 under 16's in the starting line-up (bringing on a 6th as a substitute) this was a very credible Chipstead performance which obviously bodes well for the next couple of seasons. Well done lads.

Team: Joe Gant (Sam Freeman 82 minutes), Ben Walters, Sam Marks, Darren Millard (Joe Lazell 76 minutes), Dan Lilley, Yannick Foh, James Fotheringham,. Alec Brown (Reece Perry, 25 minutes), Tynan Elliot, Troy Murray, Nick Rumbol. Sub not used Sami Cela.

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup Semi Final

Woking 1 v Chipstead 1 after extra time

Chipstead won 6-5 on penalties

Chipstead's under 18's beat a strong Woking side 6-5 on penalties to win through to the final of the Southern Youth League Challenge Cup. Chipstead soaked up a lot of early pressure but restricted the home side to hopeful long balls and shots from long range. Woking were unlucky however not to take the lead after 20 minutes when a shot from the edge of the box hit the foot of the left hand post. Chipstead looked lively on the counter attack and Alec Brown went close after 25 minutes but his 20 yard lob just went wide following a quick throw from Troy Murray. 5 minutes later a superb right wing cross from Brown just went over Nick Rumbol's head as he attacked the far post. Rumbol had another half chance 10 minutes later following a superb run and cross from Tynan Elliot, but unfortunately was just unable to get his shot away. Then on the stroke of half time Alec Brown flicked on a Dan Lilley free-kick but straight in to the arms of the keeper.

Chipstead eventually broke the deadlock after 70 minutes when forward Troy Murray knocked down a forward ball from Ashley Buchmann and midfielder Brown smashed home an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. Woking continued to dominate possession without creating goal scoring opportunities and it looked like they had run out of time, but the referee appeared to have different ideas. Woking finally secured the equaliser 8 minutes into stoppage time! They were awarded a disputed free-kick wide on the left following what looked like a good challenge from Ben Walters and managed to force the ball over the line from close range after positioning 10 players including their goalkeeper in the penalty box. Chipstead picked themselves up and continued to defend stoutly in the 30 minutes of extra time, their defence superbly marshalled by skipper Sam Marks and deservedly took the game through to a penalty shoot out. James Fotheringham, Ben Walters, Tynan Elliot, Sam Marks and Alec Brown all scored from well struck penalties to cancel out the 5 successful penalties from Woking. Woking's first sudden death penalty was then saved by in-form keeper Joe Gant who had a great game overall. Joe Lazell then stepped up for Chipstead in an attempt to win the tie but despite taking a decent penalty the Woking keeper dived high to his right to push it over the bar. Gant then thwarted the next Woking penalty taker with another great save low to his right leaving Ashley Buchmann to step up and smash the ball home to send an estatic Chipstead through to the final. The final is to be played against Sutton United, 7.30pm kick off on Thursday 8th May at Sutton's ground in Gander Green Lane.

Chipstead 2 v Banstead Athletic 1

First half goals from Tynan Elliot and Femi Ismail secured all three points for Chipstead and elevated them to fourth spot in the league table. Chipstead dominated the game from the first whistle but didn't open the scoring until the 35th minute when under 16 Tynan Elliot broke down the left wing, cut inside and shot on goal. The keeper should have made a comfortable save but only managed to help the ball over the line giving Elliot his first goal for the club. 5 minutes later Chipstead made it two when Banstead only half cleared a corner, it was put back in the box by Elliot and Femi Ismail headed his debut goal over the advancing keeper who was caught in no-mans land. Forward Troy Murray almost added a third just 2 minutes later but his shot on the turn went agonisingly wide. Banstead had a chance to equalise on the stroke of half time but the ball was headed over from a right wing corner.

Chipstead came out slowly in the second half perhaps thinking that they had the game won - and after 56 minutes centre back Darren Millard unfortunately gave away a penalty, mis-timing a tackle as the forward tried to go round him. Much to Chipstead's relief Banstead stroked the penalty wide of the left hand post. Banstead had much more of the play in the second half and Chipstead just couldn't get the third goal to put the game beyond doubt. Alec Brown came closest after 85 minutes when he chested down a fine left wing cross from young Jack Howard, but vollied wide from 12 yards. Banstead did eventually pull one back and deservedly so, when Chipstead keeper Sam Freeman tipped a shot on to the post and the visitors were first to react to the rebound.

Chipstead 2 v Epsom and Ewell 2

A first half goal from Alec Brown following a right wing driven cross from Femi Ismail gave Chipstead the lead. Epsom scored twice to give themselves a 2-1 advantage but young under 16 centre back Darren Millard scored his debut goal and the equaliser with 5 minutes to go. Millard picked up the ball outside the box and shot right footed from 20 yards - the keeper got underneath the shot and although he got two hands to the ball he was unable to keep it out of the net.

Chipstead had four under 16's in the back line all of whom performed admirably. Debutant Anthony Childs, another under 16 also made a very promising contribution in centre midfield before he had to go off with an injury which will keep him out for a week. Rowan Liburd also made a promising debut coming on up front in the second half.

Wednesday 19th March

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup Quarter Final

Horley Town 0 v Chipstead 2

Chipstead got off to a flying start and forward Troy Murray should have opened the scoring after just 5 minutes but he shot straight at the keeper when he was through on goal. 5 minutes later midfielder Alec Brown put the last defender under pressure, forcing him in to a mistake but his shot was smothered by the keeper. Chipstead continued to dominate and finally got their just deserts when Yannick Foh and Brown interchanged passes before passing to Murray who smashed the ball home from 25 yards. A minute later Murray should have added a second but decided to cut inside rather than shooting and he lost the chance to get his shot away. Chipstead again threatened a few minutes later, this time a fine long ball from under 16 left back Dan Lilley was flicked on by Nick Rumbol but Alec Brown's lob was not quite high enough to loop over the advancing keeper. Just before half time Chipstead finally grabbed their second when a right wing cross from Rumbol was met by that man Murray who stroked home from 12 yards. Horley threatened on the stroke of half time but under 16 keeper Joe Gant threw himself high to his right to tip the ball over the bar. Debutant under 16 defenders Ben Walters and Darren Millard had outstanding first half's and both looked comfortable at this level of football.

The second half was very quiet in comparison. Horley had a good chance to pull one back within the first 5 minutes but the forward vollied over from 6 yards following a free-kick wide on the left. Again Chipstead had the better of the exchanges but couldn't get the third goal to put the game beyond doubt. Substitute John Breach had the best chance of the half with just 5 minutes to go but he shot over the bar when clean through on goal.

A fine performance from a young Chipstead team, in a game they should have won by a far heavier margin. Chipstead play the winners of Ashford Town and Woking in the semi-final.

Warlingham 2 v Chipstead 1

Reece Perry opened the scoring for Chipstead after 15 minutes following a counter-attack down the left flank. Alec Brown dribbled the ball forward before releasing Perry who shot calmly in to the bottom left hand corner of the net. Chipstead almost increased their lead 10 minutes later when Brown put Troy Murray through on goal but his pass across the face of the goal just evaded Perry on the far post. Perry again went close 7 minutes later but after wriggling clear of the defender he screwed his shot well wide of the far post. Warlingham secured an equaliser 10 minutes before half time - good defensive play from debutant Nicky Nutt and goalkeeper Joe Gant prevented a certain goal but the home team equalised with a strong header at the far post from the resultant left wing corner.

10 minutes in to the second half Chipstead took the precautionary measure of withdrawing centre back Nicky Nutt who is just coming back from injury. This disrupted the Chipstead team shape as influential central midfielder James Fotheringham diverted to centre back and 15 year old Jack Howard was introduced to the game. Warlingham started to get on top and scored what proved to be the winner after 65 minutes from another set play - a defensive mix up following a free kick wide on the left presented the home forward with an easy finish. Chipstead had the ball in the next with just 3 minutes remaining, Alec Brown neatly controlling a right wing cross and volleying home only to be pulled up for off-side.

Chipstead deserved a draw and certainly regretted not extending their lead whilst they dominated play in the first half.

Chipstead v Epsom and Ewell - Match Abandoned

The visitors took an early lead after just 10 minutes when Chipstead failed to defend a right wing cross and forward Will Taylor headed home powerfully from 12 yards. Chipstead started to claw their way back in to the game and almost produced the equaliser when Joe Lazell slid a neat ball in to the channel for Ryan Pearson who was quickly smothered by the goalkeeper as he tried to lift the ball in to the net.

Chipstead fielded two debutants, 15 year old Jack Howard and 17 year old John Breach and introduced a third, 15 year old Greg Pettifor half way through the second half. All made promising debuts and Breach had the best chance early on in the second half but unfortunately shot just over.

With Epsom still leading 1-0 the game was brought to an close after 75 minutes when the police requested that the match be halted following an incident outside of the ground.

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup 2nd Round

Chipstead 2 v Oakwood 1

Chipstead came back from an early goal to beat Oakwood 2-1 in the second round of the Southern Youth League Challenge Cup. Chipstead were on the rack from the very start of the game and successfully defended 5 corners in the opening minutes. After 5 minutes however, Alec Brown unfortunately conceded a direct free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box and an Oakwood midfielder calmly lifted the ball over the wall to give Oawood an early lead. Chipstead rode their luck at times and Sam Freeman in the Chipstead goal was the busier of the two keepers, pulling off a couple of good saves. Oakwood also had a goal disallowed for a foul late in the half and Chipstead were rather lucky to only go in at half time 1-0 down. They definitely looked like they were suffering from the lengthy lay-off having not played together since mid December.

Second half however was a different story and Chipstead took the game to the visitors who appeared to think that they had the game won. Debutant Troy Gall was introduced 10 minutes in to the second half and experienced Nick Rumbol was brought on after 20 minutes to replace debutant Ryan Pearson. The changes made a difference and Chipstead equalised soon after when Nick Rumbol finished off a fine sweeping move which started when Yannick Foh won possession in the right back position and finished when Rumbol smashed home Ashley Buchmann's cross from wide on the left. 10 minutes later Chipstead added their second and the match winner, Alec Brown netting after contributions from Troy Murray, James Fotheringham and Nick Rumbol. Sam Freeman in the Chipstead goal pulled off another fine save as Oakwood pressed hard for the equaliser in the last 10 minutes. Ryan Pearson, Troy Gall and 15 year old Tynan Elliot at centre back all made good debut appearances. Chipstead play either Mole Valley or Horley Town in the Cup quarter final.

Croydon 2 v Chipstead 2

Croydon equalised with the very last kick of the game to snatch a point against Chipstead in the East Division of the Southern Youth League. On a cold evening the game was fairly even, Croydon having the greater possession but Chipstead looking dangerous on the counter attack. Chipstead almost took the lead after 20 minutes when left midfielder Dan Lilley rattled the crossbar with a right footed shot from 25 yards. If was the home team however who took the lead 10 minutes later when a superbly chipped right wing cross from the by-line was neatly finished at the far post.

At half time Chipstead, who were already missing several regulars, were forced to withdraw influential midfielder Alec Brown due to illness. Versatile Nick Rumbol took his place in midfield and young forward Reece Perry was brought on as substitute up front. Within 5 minutes of the re-start Perry duly delivered when he and Troy Murray chased a long ball, pressurised the keeper who failed to clear and Perry calmly lobbed the ball in to the net. Midfielder Joe Lazell also then had to be withdrawn through illness so Murray was pulled back in to midfield and substitute keeper Sam Freeman played a roving role upfront. Perry scored his second goal 10 minutes later when Murray won a free kick and the young forward was on hand to smash the ball home after the keeper had dropped Mike Crinnegan's free-kick. The remainder of the second half was very open and Chipstead had chances to wrap things up but to their credit Croydon stuck with it and in the eighth minute of injury time nicked a point scoring at the near post following a run down the right.

Chipstead 3 v Mole Valley Predators 2

Chipstead came from two goals down to win 3-2 at home to Mole Valley Predators in the Eastern Division of the Southern Youth League. The visitors had the first chance of the game but keeper Anthony Dance, returning after suspension and injury, came off his line quickly and saved with his legs. Mole Valley took the lead after 15 minutes when Chipstead got caught badly on the counter attack. Chipstead right back Josh Watt broke forward and had a shot saved by the keeper who threw it quickly wide right and after a good interchange of passes the forward swept home a right wing cross. Mole Valley went further ahead on the half hour when Chipstead sweeper Sam Marks was far too casual in possession, got caught on the ball and a superb strike from 20 yards found the bottom left hand corner of the net. Just two minutes later Chipstead pulled one back when Troy Murray played a classic one-two with Ashley Buchmann as he approached the edge of the area and superbly fired home from 18 yards. Chipstead finished the half the brighter, seeting themselves up nicely for a second half comeback.

The home team scored the equaliser just 7 minutes in to the second half when Murray won a freekick just outside the penalty box wide on the left and a sweetly delivered cross from Alec Brown was glanced home by in-form Nick Rumbol. Chipstead started to dominate and they deservedly took the lead on the hour when a quick throw on the left saw Murray cut inside his marker and rifle home his second of the game and the match winner. Chipstead should have increased their lead, both Brown and substitute Dan Lilley having shots which unfortunately failed to find the back of the net. Mole Valley had one good chance to equalise when they got in behind the Chipstead defence down the left but the forward failed to convert at the near post.

Thursday 22nd November,

Under 18 midweek floodlit Surrey County Cup

Chipstead 1 v Molesey 4

For the second week running Chipstead lost 4-1 at home, this time to Molesey in the second round of the mid-week floodlit under 18 County Cup. Chipstead should have opened the scoring after just 6 minutes when a long clearance from sweeper Sam Marks put forward Nathan Arney clear of the defence for a run on goal. Unfortunately Arney took too long to steady himself before shooting and the recovering defender managed to shrug him off the ball. The game was fairly even for long periods but Molesey eventually broke the deadlock 7 minutes before half time. Chipstead failed to clear the ball on several occasions just outside the penalty box and a forward eventually wriggled between three players in to the box before toe-poking the ball past young keeper Joe Gant at the near post.

Crucially, Molesey increased their lead just 5 minutes in to the second half when a forward pass from midfield found two Molesey attackers who were in the clear and looking suspiciously like they were offside. The final nail in the coffin came fifteen minutes later when Chipstead defender Sotonye Ogan slipped and handled the ball and the referee awarded a penalty, even though Law 12 clearly states that handball must be deliberate. Chipstead then started to play some good football and had a strong appeal for a penalty of their own turned down when the referee judged that the hand ball was accidental! Arney should also have pulled one back when again he was through on goal but shot straight at the keeper. Chipstead did finally get on the score sheet when Ashley Buchmann was put through and he shot strongly home from distance to pull one back. Just 2 minutes later however Molesey put the game beyond doubt by adding a fourth when they reacted first to the rebound after keeper Gant had pushed the ball on to the crossbar. Before the end Chipstead had two good opportunities to restore a bit of pride but stand-in striker Mike Crinnegan shot in to the side netting after being put through by James Fotheringham and Buchmann tried to chip the keeper when clean through.

A story of missed opportunities (four one-on-ones with the keeper) and some questionable refereeing decisions but on a positive note there were again some admirable individual performances and there are promising signs that three or four players are on track for progressing to the senior sides.

Thursday 15th November,

Southern Youth League, East Division

Chipstead 1 v Sutton United 4

Chipstead Under 18's lost 4-1 at home to Sutton United in the East Division of the Southern Youth League. The first half was fairly even with Chipstead's five man midfield snuffing out a lot of Sutton's possession. The visitors should have taken the lead on a couple of occasions failing to convert some half chances as the ball bobbled around Chipstead's penalty box. At the other end, former Sutton midfielder Alec Brown had a great chance to give Chipstead the lead but his goalbound side foot from 12 yards was turned round the post by Sutton's Danny Bracken. United eventually took the lead just 2 minutes before half time when Chipstead failed to shut down a cross in to the penalty box and the ball was forced home from close range.

Sutton went further ahead just 5 minutes in to the second half when a header from a corner was spectacularly cleared but the referee ajudged, quite correctly, that the ball had crossed the line. Chipstead pulled one back just 2 minutes later when Alec Brown rose between two defenders to superbly head home a Dan Lilley free-kick delivered from just outside the penalty box on the left. Chipstead then enjoyed a dominant period of play where it looked likely that they would get the equaliser but it was Sutton who scored again after 70 minutes when a hopeful shot from distance took a funny bounce in front of keeper Joe Gant and squirmed in to the net. Chipstead then had to chase the game and played with just three at the back and Sutton scored a fourth with a few minutes to go reacting first to a rebound off the keeper.

Wednesday 7th November,

Southern Youth League Challenge Cup, 1st Round

Warlingham 2 v Chipstead 2 after extra time

Chipstead won 4-3 on penalties

Chipstead won through to the second round of the Southern Youth League Challenge cup beating a strong Warlingham side away from home on penalties. Chipstead put the home team on the back foot straight from the kick-off and almost took the lead after just 4 minutes when central midfielder James Fotheringhame flicked on a long kick from young keeper Joe Gant and although midfielder Ashley Buchmann neatly rounded the keeper he saw his shot headed off the line by the recovering defender. 3 minutes later Chipstead again went close when right sided midfielder Yannick Foh shot just wide of the far post following a free-kick from left back Rob Monnery. Chipstead continued to dominate, winning a succession of corners but it was Warlingham who opened the scoring against the run of play when a throw from the left was headed away by the Chipstead defence but a shot from outside the box was cruelly deflected, looping over the keepers head.

Chipstead started the second half still 1-0 down but Foh almost produced the equaliser when he cut inside on to his left foot following a pass from Alec Brown but shot just over the bar. Again Chips went close 2 minutes later when a Buchmann shot was deflected for a corner following a pin point free kick from Brown. On the hour Sotonye Ogan suffered a head injury and had to be taken to hospital being replaced in defence by Mike Criinegan. James Fotheringham netted the deserved equaliser with 15 minutes remaining and it looked like Chips were going to go on a win the game. Unfortunately forward Nick Rumbol was flattened just as the final whistle blew resulting in another player visiting the casualty department of East Surrey Hospital.

Warlingham took the lead again in extra time but with less than 10 minutes remaining Chipstead pushed sweeper Sam Marks up front and he duly delivered running on to a through ball and striking home the equaliser. James Fotherinham, Josh Watt, Mike Crinnegan and Alec Brown all successfully dispatched their spot kicks during a tense penalty shoot-out. The Warlingham keeper saved Sam Marks' effort with his legs, but Chipstead keeper Joe Gant saved one of the Warlingham penalties and a second was hit wide.

Chipstead deserved to win, against a physical team who are currently riding high in the league table. Both Ogan and Rumbol have now been released from hospital and are currently resting.

Epsom and Ewell 1 v Chipstead 4

Chipstead comfortably beat Epsom and Ewell 4-1 away from home, with all the goals coming in the first half. Epsom started brightly and had a very strong appeal for a penalty turned down in the first minute when sweeper Sam Marks brought down the Epsom forward - the referee ajudged it to be a fair challenge. The home team did however take the lead 4 minutes later when Chipstead failed to shut down a throw-in and the resultant cross managed to evade everyone in the box and crept in at the far post. Chipstead then started to get in to the game and were unlucky not to equalise afer 15 minutes when wide midfielder Yannick Foh streaked down the right and drove in a cross which was met first time by forward Troy Murray, half saved by the keeper and then scrambled off the line. Chipstead secured the equaliser a minute later when a cross from left back Rob Monnery just evaded Foh at the far post but the half-clearance was met superbly on the volley by right back Aaron Gough who bulged the net from just inside the penalty box. Chipstead started to dominate and went close 10 minutes later when Marks played in midfielder James Fotheringham who passed to Murray who unfortunately shot just wide of the far post. 5 minutes later forward Nick Rumbol also went close but he slightly overran the ball and the home goalkeeper manged to smother his shot. 5 minutes before half time Chipstead finally took the lead when Murray powered his way in to the box, got off a shot which the keeper could only parry and Rumbol gratefully accepted the rebound, netting from 8 yards. Rumbol added his second just 2 minutes later when Marks superbly intercepted a through ball on the half way line, passed the ball forward to Rumbol who neatly flicked the ball upwards before smashing home a volley from outside the penalty box. Just on the stoke of half time Alec Brown killed off any thoughts of a Epsom comeback when he subtlely glanced home a right wing cross from Gough.

Amazingly the second half remained goalless although Chipstead's Ashley Buchmann should have converted a relatively easy chance that fell to him just 5 minutes in to the second half following a cross from Rumbol. Chipstead manager David Lazell said "Given that we were winning 4-1, I set the team the challenge at half time of keeping a clean sheet in the second half. It is important that young players learn how to close out a game because when they progress to the Reserves and First team there will be times when they have to contain teams and protect a lead. It is not always necessary to chase more goals so this was a good opportunity for them to learn about a different aspect of the game and I was pleased that as a team we remained compact and kept our discipline. I was also pleased to be able to get the two under 16 substitutes on the pitch, Dan Lilley and Sami Cela, in addition to the two who started the game, Aaron Gough and debutant Joe Gant".

Chipstead 1 v Deal Town 2

Deal scored first after just 10 minutes when a long punt down field from the keeper evaded sweeper Sam Marks and was rocketed home from 30 yards. Deal dominated for the first 20 minutes winning a stream of corners but Chipstead fought back strongly and dominated the final 25 minutes of the half. Wide-right midfielder Yannick Foh went close with a shot just rising over the bar and forward Troy Murray was twice thwarted when the goalkeeper quickly smothered his attempts to shoot. Murray had another very good chance 5 minutes from half time but he shot over when he should have atleast got a shot on target to make the keeper work. Chipstead eventually got a well deserved equaliser just before the half time whistle when a Foh right wing cross was met with goal bound header from central midfielder James Fotheringham but the keeper managed to turn it on to the post, Nick Rumbol then gathered on the left and put in a fine cross which Nathan Arney and Alec Brown both attacked, Arney getting the decisive touch.

Chipstead completely dominated the second half - an Arney lob just crept over after 48 minutes and five minutes later the Deal keeper managed a turn away a Fotheringham shot down at his right hand post. After 70 minutes Arney had another chance to make the keeper work but shot wide from 18 yards. Chipstead then got caught with a sucker punch after 75 minutes. A hopeful left wing cross dipped over the back four and was glanced home by the attacking forward. Chipstead continued to dominate but couldn't muster the equaliser - sweeper Sam Marks had one amazing run where he broke from the back, went past 5 players and was through on goal but unfortunately with just the keeper to beat he lost his balance and the chance was gone. With just five minutes to go and Chipstead playing with four up front, substitute Reece Perry had a shot charged down in the box and with the last kick of the game Fotheringham shot wide.

A very disappointing result given the long periods of domination and goal scoring opportunities but also very frustrating given the amount of free-kicks given away, the majority through pointless off-sides.

Chipstead 1 v Whyteleafe 4

Chipstead were resoundly beaten 4-1 by local rivals Whyteleafe at the High Road. The visitors enjoyed most of the early possession but it was Chipstead's 15 year old forward Reece Perry who almost broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when he pounced on a loose ball cleared from a free-kick and thudded a shot against the bar. Whyteleafe bounced back and Sam Freeman in the Chipstead goal had to be at his very best to go full stretch to palm away a vicious shot from just inside the penalty box. Whyteleafe scored their first after 25 minutes when a deep left wing corner driven beyond the far post was superbly vollied home from a very tight angle despite Freeman getting a hand to the ball. Just before half time Whyteleafe added a second when the ball was played back in to the penalty box after Chipstead had cleared a corner and a lucky deflection saw the ball diverted by the hapless keeper. 10 minutes in to the second half Whyteleafe added the killer third goal when Chipstead switched off at a throw-in and the resultant right wing cross was netted at the far post. Chipstead immediately bounced back and started to dominate periods of play. Chipstead's Declan Connery made a very strong run down the right hand side ghosting past 4 players before he was eventually dispossed but 15 year old substitute Dan Lilley picked up the loose ball and smacked it home in to the bottom right hand corner from 18 yards. Chipstead then had four very good chances to add the second and potentially set the game up for a grandstand finish - unfortunately Lilley shot just wide after bursting through on goal, Nathan Arney had a great shot well saved by the keeper, Ashley Buchmann put in a cross which the keeper just managed to take off Yannick Foh's head and Alec Brown hit the bar direct from a corner. If one of them had gone in it might have been a different game but Whyteleafe added a fourth with just 5 minutes to go when Chipstead had reverted to 3 at the back and were still chasing the game - a left wing cross was met with a timely run and rifled home in to the top of the net. Overall a result that did not reflect the match but Chipstead must bounce straight back as they entertain Deal Town next week in the FA Youth Cup.

VCD Athletic 0 v Chipstead 2

Chipstead progressed to the second qualifying round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup, beating VCD Athletic 2-0 away from home.Chipstead's keeper Sam Freenman was called in to early action pulling off a fine point blank save from a header after just 7 minutes and 10 minutes later forward Nathan Arney gave Chipstead the lead when he swivelled and shot powerfully home from just outside the penalty box. VCD enjoyed a lot of possession but were unable to create goal scoring chances with skipper Sam Marks superbly marshalling the Chipstead Defence. Alec Brown went close to increasing the lead before half time but his powerful shot unfortunately fizzed over the bar. VCD started quickly in the second half and it was keeper Freeman who again pulled off a wonderful save thwarting a well struck volley from 8 yards. Chipstead then started to dominate play and Arney twice forced the home keepr to make good savs down by his right hand post and both Decaln Connery and Brown went close with shots just over. Arney hit the bar on the hour following a delightful ball from Troy Murray and it was Arney who finally providedthe vital second goal after 85 minutes thumping home a direct free-kick whilst the home team were organsing the wall. A good disciplined win for Chipstead and a very strong overall team performance. Chipstead are at home to either Deal Town or Lingfield in the next round.

Banstead Athletic 0 v Chipstead 2

Chipstead took all three points from their visit to Merland Rise, two second half goals securing victory for the visitors. Chipstead started the stronger and were unlucky not to take the lead after just 10 minutes when Banstead failed to clear a corner and goal-bound headers from Alec Brown and James Fotheringham were blocked by home defenders. Banstead went close themselves on the half hour shooting just wide from inside the penalty box but Chipstead responded immediately and 15 year old wide midfielder Robbie Drewett should have opened the scoring after skilfully bursting through the defence but his left foot volley failed to hit the target. Banstead had the ball in the net a minute later but the goal was clearly offside and correctly cancelled out by the referee. Chipstead striker Nathan Arney nearly broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time but his well struck shot again failed to trouble the goalkeeper rising fiercely over the bar. Banstead started the stronger in the second half and Chipstead goalkeeper San Freeman had to be very alert to to catch one direct shot and divert another just round the post. It was Chipstead however who had the ball in the net after 65 minutes this time the ref disallowing for a foul on the keeper. Banstead were again unlucky not to score when a snap shot from inside the box rebounded of the bar but it was Chipstead who finally broke the deadlock after 80 minutes - centre back Mike Crinnegan won a determined challenge in his own half, set up central midfielder Alec Brown who swiftly exchanged passes with forward Nathan Arney before setting the forward up to calmly slot past the badly positioned keeper. Chipstead doubled their lead within 5 minutes when substitute striker Nick Rumbol chased down a long ball through the centre, wriggled past the last defender and calmly took it round the goalkeeper before slotting home from a narrow angle. A well deserved win for Chipstead in a fairly evenly fought match which was full of chances for both sides.

Chipstead 0 v Warlingham 2

Chipstead lost to a strong Warlingham side 2-0 in the East Division of the Southern Youth League. Chipstead goalkeeper Anthony Dance pulled off two stunning early point blank saves before Warlingham finally took the lead after 12 minutes. The visitors won possession in central midfield, played through Chipstead's back four and despite Dance pulling off another fine save were first to react to the rebound netting from close range. A young inexperienced Chipstead battled well against a big, strong and skilful Warlingham side and 15 year old right back Aaron Gough had a half chance to equalise when he burst through the midfield but failed to get his shot away when put under pressure by the recovering defenders. Centre forward Troy Murray also went close but his far post header was plucked out the air by the Warlingham keeper. Chipstead took the game to the vistors in the second half and threatened to equalise early on. Josh watt replaced Joe Lazell who suffered a back injury and Alec Brown almost secured the equaliser, just heading over an out-swinging corner from 15 year old Dan Lilley. Mike Crinnegan replaced Sotonye Ogan at centre back but Warlingham got their second after 70 minutes when the home team failed to clear from a corner. 15 year old Reece Perry replaced Nathan Arney up front and Chipstead continued to push forward and Dan Lilley went very close with a right foot pile driver from 25 yards which the goalkeper just tipped over the bar. Chipstead continued to work hard in search of a consolation goal but Warlingham ran out deserved winners, collecting all three points.

Chipstead 11 v Carshalton Athletic 3

Chipstead dominated the early stages and had three scrambled chances to score before Carshalton surprisingly took the lead against the run of play squeezing the ball home at the far post. The visitors then increased their lead after 15 minutes scoring from close range following a short corner and whilst skipper James Fotheringham was on the floor injured. Chipstead pulled one back straight from the kick-off, 15 year old Dan Lilley calmly slotting home following a defence splitting ball from Alec Brown. Chipstead equalised five minutes later when Troy Murray netted superbly following good approach work and took the lead on the half hour when Alec Brown rifled home a loose ball from within the eighteen yard box. Chipstead added a fourth just before half time, Nathan Arney latching on to a through ball and calmly stroking home. Chipstead ran riot in the second half scoring at will as Carshalton started to shuffle their side around. Substitute striker John Breach scored a hat-trick, all superbly taken goals and 15 year old Aaron Gough calmly helped himself to a brace enjoying his role in midfield rather than fullback. Skipper James Fotheringham scored with a header following a pin point corner from Alec Brown and 15 year old substitute striker Reece Perry also scored a well taken goal. Carshalton got a consolation goal late in the game.

Corinthian Casuals 4 v Chipstead 1

A very young Chipstead side commited footballing suicide making far to many unforced errors and gifting the game to a much more experienced Corinthian Casuals. Casuals opened the scoring after just 10 minutes when a left wing cross found the home team forward in acres of space and he headed home strongly from 15 yards. Chipstead worked hard to get themselves back in the game but far too often gave possession away and therefore failed to put the home defence under too much pressure. James Sidell had to be replaced early on due to injury and experienced Alex Garcev, who had turned up late due to traffic problems, was entered in to the fray. Chipsetad equalised after 40 minutes when a Andreas Moutta shot from a Garcev cross was only parried away and Nick Rumbol was on hand to smash the ball home and score his first goal for the club. 15 minutes in to the second half Chipsetad were punished for again losing possession in the midfield and the forward skilfully converted a one on one with Anthony Dance in the Chipstead goal. Chipstead went further behind after 70 minutes when a right wing cross was parried away by Dance and Casuals converted the lose ball whilst Dance was being impeded on the goal line. The visitors scored the final goal 5 minutes from the end, Leon Cole shooting home after the Chipstead defence failed to properly clear a lose ball just outside the box. Given the inexperience of the Chipstead side there were still some creditable performances particularly from James Fotheringham and Teejay Ryan.

Chipstead 1 v Carshalton 3

Despite a spirited second half come back Chipstead were unable to capitalise on their many half chances to cancel out the 3-0 lead gained by Carshalton in the first half. Carshalton opened the scoring in the 15th minute when possession was lost by Chipstead in Carshalton's half. The home defence were caught by a hopeful forward pass which was latched on to by Ryan Pearson who confidently shot past the advancing Anthony Dance. The visitors added a second just 3 minutes later when a corner from the right dropped kindly for a midfielder to toe home from 6 yards. Carshalton added their third on the half hour when a delightful diagonal cross from Danny Elgar was powerfully headed home although the forward looked to be miles offside. Following a 'rallying call' at half time and early second half substitutions to bring Daryl Coleman and Ricky Betts in to the fray, Chipstead rallied and really took the game to the visitors. Lennie Miller, Nathan Arney, Teejay Ryan and Daryl Coleman all went close but were unable to get that important first comeback goal for the Chips. Carshalton did have the ball in the net one more time but the linesman's flag ruled that the ball was previously out of play. Chipstead finally got a goal after 85 minutes when great inter-change play between Joe Lazell, Lennie Miller and Nathan Arney eventually saw Arney up-ended in the box for a penalty Kick. Arney picked himself up and confidently side footed home from the spot. Chipstead again threatend in the remaining 5 minutes but were unable to overcome the mountain they had set themselves.

Chipstead 1 v Croydon 1

Both teams had more than enough chances to win the game but honours eventually remained even in a 1-1 draw at the High Road. Croydon had the first chance of the game but Anthony Gray blasted wide with just the keeper to beat. Chipstead's young centre back Satonye Ogan then found himself in a similar position at the other end but he too shot wide from close range following a headed knock-down from Daryl Coleman. Coleman again went close with a header but the keeper comfortably saved to send the teams in 0-0 at half time. Chipstead broke the deadlock just 10 minutes in to the second half when a goal kick from Daniel Smith in the Croydon goal went straight to Andreas Moutta who controlled , advanced 2 yards and finished with the outside of his right foot. Moutta almost added his second 10 minutes later but his snap shot from 15 yards unfortunately hit the post and Teejay Ryan's follow-up was blocked on the line. Ryan Watts scored Croydon's equaliser after 75 minutes when he latched on to a lose ball and smashed a shot in to the roof of the net from at least 35 yards. Croydon threatened more in the last 10 minutes and were unlucky not to snatch the winner but overall Chipstead were definitely worth a point.

Croydon Athletic 3 v Chipstead 0

Two first half goalkeeper errors unfortunately put paid to a spirited display from a young and inexperienced Chipstead side. League leaders Croydon Athletic dominated for long periods but were unable to break down the Chipstead defenece until the 17th minute when keeper Anthony Dance mis-kicked a back pass and gave the Croydon forward an easy tap in. 2 minutes later Dance was unable to clear another through ball and the forward was presented with another open goal. In the second half Chipstead continued to work hard but despite several long range shots rarely threatened the Croydon goal. The home team added the third with 10 minutes to go when left back Rob Monnery was just outpaced by the nippy Richardo Ramsey who slotted past the advancing keeper. Collectively the Chipstead defence of debutant 15 year old Satonye Ogan, James Fotheringham, Josh Watt and Rob Monnery gave a fine battling performance and despite a couple of costly errors keeper Dance pulled off several other spectacular saves to keep the score respectable. Substitute and debutant central midfielder James Sidell also put in a promising performance and 16 year old Teejay Ryan once again gave a committed, hard working and bruising performance.

Whyteleafe 0 v Chipstead 3

A first half strike from 16 year old Teejay Ryan gave Chipstead a 1-0 lead at half time. A short corner between Alex Garcev and Harry Hudson was crossed deep in to the box and Ryan arrived late at the far post to side foot home with his weaker left foot from a very tight angle. Second half goals from Alex Garcev, a tap in from 5 yards following a goalkeeper error, and Nathan Arney, a 6 yard box finish after the keeper failed to gather an Alex Garcev cross put the game beyond Whyteleafe's reach and secured all 3 points. Thursday 22nd March. Southern Youth League, North Division Chipstead 0 v Tonbridge Angels 3 The High Road crowd were entertained by a closely fought encounter for the first 40 minutes until the referee felt the need to send off Chipstead keeper Anthony Dance for handball outside his area. In the early stages Tonbridge had enjoyed better quality possession but only really troubled Dance on one occasion when he pulled off a fine double save to thwart Ryan Liay's close range volley and subsequent rebound. Chipstead on the other hand looked very threatening on the counter attack and Nathan Arney forced keeper Burke to a full stetch save down on his right post and Alex Garcev had another couple of shots well saved. But in the 40 minute Dance rushed from his area to shut down a shot as the defence failed to properly clear the ball from the penalty area. The ball struck his arm from point-blank range but the handball certainly wasn't deliberate and he certainly wasn't the last defender. But the referee chose to dismiss the keeper and Tonbridge's Parkinson scored from the free-kick, a wicked deflection taking the ball past stand-in keeper Nathan Arney. Chipstead's ten men emerged for the second half determined to get themselves back in the game but went two behind after just 5 minutes when a goal was awarded for a header despite an attacker being in an offside position. The linesman deemed that he wasn't interfering with play even though he was standing on the goal line. Chipstead continued to work hard in an attempt to get back in to the game but Tonbridge put the game beyond their reach after 77 minutes Parkinson scoring again from a strong header this time direct from a corner. Chipstead continued to battle but despite shots from Harry Hudson, Alex Garcev and substitute Andreas Moutta they failed to get the goal they richly deserved.

Chipstead 2 v Tooting and Mitcham United 1

After a months lay-off Chipstead got back to winning ways securing a 2-1 victory at the High Road over a young Tooting side. Chipstead opened the scoring within the first minute when James Fotheringham regained possession in his own half and threaded a ball through to Nathan Arney on the edge of the 18 yard box who skilfully stepped inside the defender and calmly stroked the ball in to the net past the hapless keeper. Chipstead dominated large periods of the play but failed to create any clear cut chances whilst speedy Tooting forward David Flonyor caused problems for the home defence without troubling the keeper. Chipstead increased their lead after 40th minutes when a well delivered corner from Harry Hudson was toed home from 10 yards by central defender Ricky Betts. Tooting came close to pulling one back on the stroke off half time but there was no one on hand to poke the ball home when it rolled across the face of the goal. Chipstead again controlled much of the second half without really threatening to get the third goal which would have put the game beyond Tooting's reach. To their credit the visitor's worked tirelessly and deservedly pulled one back after 65 minutes when Chipstead squandered possession in their own half and that man Flonyor nipped in to confidently find the back of the net. Neither team particularly looked like scoring for the remaining 25 minutes as both teams introduced young substitutes in to the fray. But it was Tooting who almost snatched a point in the dying seconds but they failed to convert the lose ball as it agonisingly bounced around in the Chipstead 6 yard box.

Chipstead 1 v Sutton United 1

Chipstead were fortunate not to be dead and buried by half time but a spirited second half performance earned them a deserved point against Sutton United in the North Division of the Southern Youth League. Honours were fairly even for the first 15 minutes but Sutton slowly started to dominate the play as Chipstead squandered possession far to easily. The visitors looked sharper and deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes when Alec Brown skilfully lofted the ball over the advancing Anthony Dance from the edge of the 18 yard box.Sutton retained possession for long periods and attacked almost at will. Only good goalkeeping, last ditch defending and poor finishing prevented Sutton from killing off the game and left Chipstead with a glimmer of hope. Following a stiff half time talk, the home team started the second half in afar more positive manner and Harry Hudson and Daryl Coleman at last started to dominate the central midfield areas. Nathan Arney also had a much more competitive second half and grabbed the all important equaliser after 65 minutes after first hitting the post and then superbly squeezing in the rebound from a tight angle. Chipstead looked the more threateningfor the remainder of the second half but almost threw it away when a defensive slip let insubstitute Benis Abi but keeper Dance was quickly on handto save the shot and earn the draw.

Southern Youth League Cup

Staines Town 5 v Chipstead 1

Chipstead exited the SYL Cup losing 5-1 away to a strong Staines Town. Chipstead started brightly and although Staines had greater possession it was the visitors who opened the scoring after 35 minutes when a missed defensive header from a goal kick enabled Lennie Miller to streak clear and superbly lob the advancing keeper. Just before half time Town equalised from the penalty spot when the referee harshly blew for hand ball after Luke Hackett blocked a shot smashed at him from just two yards. Crucially, Staines took the lead just five minutes in to the second half whan a scramble in the 6 yard box following a cross from the right was toed over the line. The game was then evenly balanced for the next 20 minutes and Chipstead threatened to get the equaliser but it was Staines who got the all important third goal from a deflection. They then went on to add another two within the next 6 minutes and put the game beyond the visitor's reach. The fourth goal followed a good right wing cross and a calculated finish and the fifth was unfortunately as a result of an error in the left back position leaving the goalkeeper with little chance. Chipstead continued to work hard to restore a bit of pride and substitutes Nathan Arney, Teejay Rryan and Joe Lazell all contributed to the cause, but to their credit Staines kept possession well and denied Chipstead any chance to make the score more respectable. Thursday 4th January. Southern Youth League, North Division Chipstead 1 v Fisher Athletic 2 A narrow 2-1 defeat for Chipstead in a game where they definitely deserved a point. Chipstead worked really hard in the first half to close down, pressurise and frustrate a lively Fisher Athletic. Chipstead looked by far the more likely to score and both Nathan Arney, making his debut, and Curtis Widmer went close with shots in the penalty area which the visiting keeper managed to block. Chipstead did eventually take the lead in the 42nd minute when a defensive header on the half way line was was picked up by skipper Harry Hudson who played a ball in to the left channel for Nathan Arney to control and slot past the advancing keeper. Fisher almost drew level on the stroke of half time but Chipstead keeper Anthony Dance pulled off a wonderful save from point blank range to send the home team in at half time one goal to the good. Fisher really took the game to Chipstead in the second half and as Chipstead became move tired Fisher started to dominate the play and take advantage of the created space. Fisher had a few decent chances but keeper Dance kept them at bay until the 65th minute when a forward pass in to the right hand channel resulted in a cross and an easy finish for the midfielder arriving in to the box. Fisher looked more likely to snatch a winner and at times Chipstead defended desperately to prevent Fisher getting clear shots at goal. But Chipstead continued to look lively at the front and substitutes Lenny Miller and Henri Kousso-Doua both looked threatening. Fisher scored the winner with just 8 minutes remaining when a weak defensive header mid-way in the half enabled a ball to be played in behind the defence and the forward gratefully dispatched the chance.

Leatherhead 2 v Chipstead 1

Chipstead took the opportunity to have another look at some of the under 16's who performed well at the pre-season trials who were not offered places in the squad for this season. It was also an opportunity to play some of the under 17's who have not been involved on a regular basis although on the night a couple of these were not available. Just for good measure there were also a few under 18 trialists on view. By and large it was a decent all round effort, with some very encouraging performances especially from the younger players, against a Leatherhead side made up of all under 17's. Curtis Widmer equaIised for Chipstead in the second half latching on to a forward pass and cooly taking it round the keeper. Anthony Dance was again in fine form in the Chipstead goal and Luke Hackett and James Fotheringham both performed heroically in central defence. Leatherhead scored the winner late in the second half although to be honest they probably deserved to win by a slightly bigger margin. The purpose of the friendly was to check on players who would likely be more involved next season and together with keeping tabs on the under 17's on a Sunday morning it looks like we will again have some promising youngsters for next year.

Under 18 Floodlit Midweek Surrey County Cup

Chipstead 4 (3) v Chertsey Town 5 (3)

After Extra Time A nine goal thriller but how on earth Chipstead managed to lose this game is a mystery. Chipstead opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when a defence splitting diagonal ball from debutant Matt Marney gave Robbie Gray the opportunity to nip in, skillfully round the keeper and side foot in to a empty net. Chipstead increased the lead on the half hour when a ball down the line from right back Scott Ashbrooke was crossed by Curtis Widmer, set-back by Lennie Miller and struck home by that man Gray again, this time with his weaker right foot. Chipstead continued to dominate in the second half and it looked like the home team were heading for a clean sheet and easy passage in to the next round. But with less than quarter of an hour to go Chipstead failed to clear a corner and Chertsey forced the ball over the line from close range. The home team responded immediately and within 2 minutes they had restored the two goal advantage when a left wing corner dropped nicely for skipper Daryl Coleman who controlled it with his chest and vollied home. But Chertsey never gave up and with just 5 minutes remaining they took advantage of another scramble in the box and with defender Mark Springate pole-axed in a clumsy challenge, they again forced the ball over the line. 2 minutes later Chertsey netted the equaliser, sending the tie in to extra time, when the ball was superbly swept home from 20 yards following a left wing cross which dropped in front of the home defence. In extra time Chipstead were again the stronger team but it was Chertsey who took the lead for the first time in the game when, just after half time, the forward turned inside centre back Luke Harmsworth and beat keeper Anthony Dance on the near post. Chipstead bravely responded and equalised 4 minutes later this time substitute Heri Kousso-Douah being first to react to a long throw in to the box and heading backwards over the advancing keeper. Chertsey netted the match winner with 5 minutes remaining when Chipstead again failed to properly clear a corner and despite a thundering block from centre back Dan Lish the ball dropped kindly for the striker who netted from 8 yards. This time Chipstead were unable to produce the equaliser and send the game to penalties.

Chipstead 3 v Whyteleafe 2

Chipstead came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against Whyteleafe at the High Road. Chipstead engineered three scoreable chances in the first 10 minutes but failed to convert any of them, only to be hit with a sucker punch when they failed to clear a throw-in and the resultant shot was cruelly deflected in to the corner of the goal. Chipstead went further behind 5 minutes later when a hopefull long ball over the top down Chipstead's left caught the defence flat footed and although the shot hit the post, Whyteleafe were first to react to strike home the rebound. Chipstead importantly clawed one back just before half time when a long throw, level with the penalty box on the right, dropped to Henri Kousso-Doua who swept the ball home. Chipstead dominated the second half without playing that well and it looked like it was going to be a frustrating night after they failed to put away the many half-chances they created. But the equaliser finally came in the 80th minute when Lennie Miller cleverly turned on a ball delivered in to the box from wide on the left and Daryl Coleman was on hand to force the pass over the line from close range. Chipstead remained in the ascendancy and got the deserved winner and the 3 points when Curtis Widmer drove purposedly in-field from wide right and when his shot was charged down Coleman picked up the rebound and vollied home from the edge of the box. A deserved victory for Chipstead but generally a lack lustre performance although substitute youngsters Ricky Betts and debutant James Fotheringham did well when they joined the action.

Chipsetad 0 v Croydon Athletic 3

A 3-0 loss to table topping Croydon Athletic despite goalkeeper Anthony Dance saving a first half penalty. Chipstead had the better of the early exchanges and the Croydon keeper was by far the busier, but after 25 minutes Athletic earned a penalty after a foul by the Dance following clever wing play wide on the left from a Croydon midfielder. Highly promising keeper Anthony Dance dusted himself down and pulled off a tremendous save, diving low to his left to keep the scores level. Athletic took the lead just 2 minutes later when a harshly awarded free-kick just right of centre was well struck home. Chipstead conceded another penalty just 5 minutes later for a foulby Coleman that looked very innocuous. This time Athletic did not miss. Chipstead had claims for a penalty themselves just before half time but the referee judged the hand ball to be accidental. In the second half despite Chipstead's spirited efforts to pull a goal back, Croydon did very well keeping possession and taking the sting out of the game. Chipstead continued to threaten and Robbie Gray rattled the crossbar with a fine shot from 20 yards but it was just not to be Chipstead's night. Croydon added a third with the final kick of the game following a scramble in the box and with sweeper Ashley Lawrence, who had a magnificant game, down injured. All in all the scoreline made the game appear worse than it was for Chipstead. They fielded 5 under 17's in the starting line-up with another one and an under 16 on the bench. Chipstead's young defence, three under 17's - keeper Anthony Dance, Ashley Lawrence, Luke Hackett (making his debut) and Luke Harmsworth, together with under 18 Mark Springate played particularly well together and deserve praise.

Tooting and Mitcham 0 v Chipstead 5

Chipstead netted five and kept a clean sheet to comfortably overcome a young Tooting and Mitcham side in the North Division of the Southern Youth League. Chipstead took the lead after just 90 seconds when a well delivered right wing free kick from Harry Hudson eventually dropped for Daryl Coleman twelve yards out, who comfortably passed the ball in to the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Chipstead increased their lead after 22 minutes when a Harry Hudson corner was superbly headed back across goal by Luke Harmsworth and greatfully headed home by Lennie Miller. The visitors further increased their lead before half time when Alex Garcev collected a ball out of defence wide on the half way line, turned and beat the right back then rounded the centre back and smashed the ball in to the top left hand corner from 20 yards. 5 minutes in to the second half Chipstead centre back Dan Lish was replaced, suffering from bruised ribs. Henri Kousson-Doua was introduced to left midfield and Robbie Gray moved to left back. Curtis Widmer was also introduced up front after 60 minutes and looked very lively. Tooting fought bravely to get themselves back in the game but Chipstead killed the game off in the 74th minute when Miller added his second with another header from a Henri Kousso-Doua corner. Joe Lazell made his debut appearance up front with 15 minutes to go and Harry Hudson netted the fifth goal with just 5 minutes remaining scoring from a direct free-kick on the edge of the box after benefitting from a lucky deflection.

U'18 Midweek Floodlit County Cup

Sutton United 2 v Chipstead 3

Goals from Daryl Coleman free-kick, Robbie Gray and an own goal following a Henri Kousso-Doua corner were more than enough to progress Chipstead to the next round of the county cup. A late penalty for Sutton made the scoreline more respectable from their point of view but flattered them on a night where they were comfortably beaten. Monday 16th October. Southern Youth League, North Division Croydon 1 v Chipstead 1 Another frustrating night for Chipstead, failing to capitalise on a lot of first half possession. Chipstead came quickly out of the blocks and early left and right wing crosses from lively Robbie Gray and skipper Harry Hudson caused havoc in the Croydon defence. One of Gray's crosses was met with a stunning volley from Hudson which unfortunately hit a defender on the back preventing it from screaming in to the net. Another was met by Luke Harmsworth but again the shot was charged down. After 15 minutes a superb in-swinging corner from Harry Hudson was headed off the line and 5 minutes later a carbon copy delivery was again headed off the line but this time Gray was on hand to force the ball home. Chipstead continued to dominate possession but failed to get the crucial second goal, Croydon being restriced to rare counter attacks and keeper Anthony Dance was only really called in to action once when he produced a fine double save, parrying the initial shot and then holding the rebound. In the second half the home side came in to the game a lot more. A first half injury to lightning quick sweeper Ashley Lawrence necessitated a re-shuffle in defence just 10 minutes in to the second half. Croydon pressed forward relentlessly but only troubled Dance with a couple of long range efforts. Chipstead still looked the more likely to score and Lennie Miller went very close with a near post header from a corner. A defensive re-shuffle was again required when stand-in centre back Sean O'Halloran also had to be withdrawn, Luke Harmsworth switching to the role. Croydon piled on the pressure as Chipstead's walking wounded began to tire and deservedly equalised with just 5 minutes to go. A ball through the middle was flicked on and the forward out paced the defence and thundered a shot past the advancing Dance. Chipstead bounced straight back and Miller almost restored Chipstead's lead but his close range header from a corner flashed agonising wide of the post. A creditable Chipstead performance, with some good individual performances but another game that should have produced 3 points.

FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

East Grinstead Town 2 v Chipstead 0

Chipstead disappointingly exited the FA Youth Cup with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of East Grinstead from the South Division of the Southern Youth League. Chipstead's problem was again finding the back of the net and despite dominating the first half for long periods were unable to make the break through. East Grinstead took the lead after 15 minutes when Dan Lish was harshly judged to have leant on the attacker in the penalty area and keeper Anthony Dance had no chance with the resultant penalty kick. Chipsetad continued to dominate the half and twice Roibbie Gray flashed the ball across the box but no one was on hand to apply the finishing touch. Harry Hudson and Jamie Jagdeo both had long range shots but neither troubled the goalkeeper, sailing harmlessly over the bar. 10 minutes in to ther second half Chipstead alomost levelled but Alex Garcev's glancing header came back off the bar and was scrambled clear. East Grinstead again cleared off the line 10 minutes later and it was definitely one of those evenings when Chipstead were just not going to score. Both Lennie Miller and Henri Kousso-Doua were brought on in search of the equaliser but Chipstead were hit with a sucker punch when insufficient pressure was applied to a run in central midfield and the resultant shot from 20 yards managed to evade the keeper although it went straight down the centre of the goal. Chipstead continued to press, introducing Sean O'Halloran as a third forward, but failed to get the ball in the box enough to put the home defence under a lot more pressure and failed to create concrete scoring chances.

Wednesday 4th October.

Southern Youth League, North Division

Sutton United 1 v Chipstead 1

From the very first whistle Chipstead took the game to a young Sutton United side and looked stronger in all departments. The Chips almost opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when Alex Garcev broke down the left and his drilled cross just evaded Harry Hudson who had made an aggressive run in to the box from midfield. Central midfielder Luke Harmsworth also went close for Chipstead but his shot went high and wide as the ball dropped to his weaker left foot. Garcev again went close with a good run and shot from outside the box but despite most of the possession Chipstead were unable to turn it in to a deserved lead. Sutton were restricted to trying to hit Chipstead on the break but far too often over-hit long diagonal passes or found themselves caught offside. Sutton came in to the game far more in the second half but still rarely troubled Anthony Dance in the Chipstead goal. After 65 minutes the deadlock was finally broken when Isaac Banson headed home a near post corner from Robbie Gray. It looked like this would be the match winner but Sutton scored the equaliser 15 minutes later when a forward wriggled free of a Dan Lish challenge in the box to shoot strongly passed the helpless Dance. Chipstead continued to press and looked far more likely to win the game and substitute Lennie Miller almost did that just 3 minutes from the end when his early shot after a short run through the centre agonisingly bounced off the post and was cleared to safety. So, honours even in a game Chipstead truly deserved to win by a comfortable margin.

FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round

Chipstead 1 v Chertsey Town 0

Chipstead enjoyed most of the early possession but the game didn't really spark in to life until the 35 minute when Chipstead centre back Dan Lish gave away a penalty. Keeper Anthony Dance saved the strongly hit spot kick only for the referee to order a re-take judging that he had moved forward off his line. Dance just as confidently saved the re-take and immediately set Alex Garcev on his way for a one-on-one with the Chertsey keeper. Garcev's shot was saved outside of the penalty area resulting in a Chipstead free-kick and dismissal of the goalkeeper. Unfortunately Harry Hudson failed to capitalise, shooting wide from the centrally awarded direct free-kick. Early in the second half Isaac Banson and Henri Kousso-Doua replaced hard working Curtis Widmer and Robbie Gray but the game remained goalless until the 75 minute when Luke Harsmworth swivelled to strike home from close range after the Chertsey defence failed to clear a corner. Unfortunately Harmsworth was harshly sent-off 8 minutes later when a seemingly innoculous challenge was judged to have earned him a second yellow card. Lennie Miller was immediately introduced to make sure the Chipstead midfield remained strong and secure progression to the next round away to East Grinstead week commencing 9th October.

Chipstead 0 v Corinthian Casuals 1

The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides giving away possession far too often. Chipstead looked more threatening in the early exchanges and Curtis Widmer twice went close with headers. Yet it was Casuals who took the lead after half an hour when possession was lost on the half way line and the resultant left wing cross was knocked back from the far post for a close range finish. The goal stirred Chipstead in to life and 5 minutes later Alxe Garcev rattled the cross-bar with a pile driver from outside the box. The ball rebounded down and over the line but the referee waved play on as the visiting goalkeeper thankfully grabbed the bouncing ball. The second half was all Chipstead and despite reverting to three at the back and throwing on debutant substitute Isaac Banson in to the attack Chipstead were unable to secure the equaliser which would have undoubtedly opened the flood gates. To their credit Casuals defended stoically and despite facing wave after wave of attacks managed to hold on for all three points. Thursday 14th September. Southern Youth League Challenge Cup Chipstead 4 v Warlingham 2 Chipstead progressed to the second round of the Southern Youth League Challenge Cup when they beat Warlingham 4-2 at the High Road. Chipstead deservedly took an early 12 minute lead when Jamie Jagdeo intercepted a throw-in and a Harry Hudson through ball to Alex Garcev was calmly slotted past the advancing keeper. Left back Mark Springate made it two after half an hour when he drilled home an unstoppable shot low in to the far corner after a free-kick from wide on the right. Warlingham pulled one back within a minute with a strong header direct from a right wing corner and equalised four minutes later when an attempted clearance from outside the box by goalkeeper Anthony Dance unfortunately hit the advancing forward and presented him with an open goal. Chipstead responded well and started quickly after the re-start and re-took the lead when Luke Harmsworth won the ball back in midfield and Harry Hudson played in debutant Curtis Widmer who swivelled and fired home from the edge of the box. Warlingham threatened to produce the equaliser to send the tie in to extra time as Chipstead were forced to make changes after injuries to Ashley Buchmann and skipper Chris Stripp. But in the last minute substitute Robbie Gray neatly stroked home the fourth goal following a long diagonal ball from Curtis Widmer and a defence splitting pass from Alex Garcev, to secure Chipstead's passage in to the next round.

Carshalton Athletic 3 v Chipstead 2

The Youth team kicked-off their league campaign with a 3-2 defeat away to Carshalton Athletic last Wednesday. Chipstead started brightly but Carshalton netted the opener after 10 minutes when a right wing cross was side footed home from just outside the six yard box. Chipstead battled well against a physical side and deservedly drew level just after the half hour when a probing right wing free-kick from Daryl Coleman was neatly swept home by u’17 centre back Ricky Betts. Carshalton again gained the advantage just 5 minutes into the second half when the Chipstead defence failed to contest a deep free-kick and the knock down was firmly struck under keeper Anthony Dance. Chipstead gamely pressed for the equaliser, admirably led by midfielders Harry Hudson and Daryl Coleman but were caught when a long ball over the top was skilfully netted by Ryan Pearson, despite Chris Stripp’s gallant efforts to delay his advance. Chipstead continued to venture forward in order to restore some pride and were rewarded when substitute Luke Harmsworth was fouled in the penalty area and Daryl Coleman emphatically despatched the 88th minute spot kick. Ashley Lawrence, Luke Harmsworth, Mark Springate, Rob Monnery and Abbey Moses all made encouraging Youth team debuts.
