It was a much-changed Chipstead line-up, which faced Badshot Lea at the High Road in the preliminary round of the Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday night, & they unfortunately emerged on the wrong end of a narrow 2-1 scoreline, which sees them exit the competition
In another veritable game of two halves, Chips had the better of the first half, & had an early chance, as the visiting keeper's clearance cannoned off the advancing Yonas Emhatsion, but he recovered to grab the ball
Yet Chipstead did take the lead 1-0 on 18 minutes, as a strong shot from Emhatsion was too hot for the keeper, who could only push it into the roof of his net
Before that, Marley Burton-Bell had made a solid clearance, & Tiago Santos David two smart saves to keep it scoreless, & then, seconds before the goal, Chips had blocked an attack three times in quick succession - Santos David made the first save, Burton-Bell headed the second effort clear & skipper on the night Storm Glautier headed clear the follow-up
Chipstead were good value for their halftime lead, & sensed it might be their night, but, within seconds of the restart, the Badshot no. 7 shot across Santos David & into the far corner to make it 1-1
The Chips keeper soon saved with his feet, & then on the dive to keep his side level, while Reece Deakin sent Deshon Carty in on goal at the other end, but he was quickly surrounded by four defenders
Kristian Campbell appeared to be taken down in the box, but nothing was given, before he unleashed a left-foot drive, but the keeper pushed it away
Chipstead introduced their subs for fresh legs, as they looked for a winner, rather than settle for penalties, but it was Badshot who scored the clincher with ten minutes to go, as a deflected shot from their no. 8 seemed to deceive Santos David, who remained rooted to the spot
Chips chased an equaliser, & Stanislaw Cyndrowski's quick free-kick was driven goalwards by sub Cameron Harrison, but went over the target - that was the closest they could get, & so they must now concentrate on Saturday's FA Vase tie v. Lingfield at AFC Whyteleafe
