Chipstead bowed out of the FA Vase at the first round stage, as they lost 2-1 to Lingfield at AFC Whyteleafe's ground on Saturday afternoon
For the second time in four days, they had the better of the first half, but were beaten in the end
After an even start, with Reece Deakin & Diego Munoz going close, keeper Tiago Santos David then had to make a tricky save off the bumpy 3G surface to keep it scoreless
Deakin went close again, as his cross-cum-shot found the roof of the net, before the Lingfield keeper took too long over a goal kick, the referee gave a corner, but Chips couldn't capitalise on Leevi Bassett's flag-kick
Tijani Eshilokun went close with a deflected shot, but he was instrumental in Chipstead taking the lead, as his precise through ball found Deshon Carty on a run through the home defence, & he finished well to make it 1-0 on 29 minutes
However, the lead lasted just 9 minutes, as Lingfield equalised, when former Chip Taurean Roberts' cross eluded Santos David, & their no. 7 turned the ball home for 1-1, which remained the score at halftime
There was an even start to the second half too, so Chipstead brought on subs to try to avoid a penalty shootout
Munoz was denied at the expense of a corner, which he took, but his teammates couldn't provide a finish
Lingfield's clincher came 11 minutes from time, as Santos David saved the first shot, the defence blocked the second, but the third was fortuitously touched in at close range, & so it was 2-1
Chips pushed forward for an equaliser - sub James Mansfield went for goal with a free-kick from just inside the home side's half, but it went just wide - Deakin went down in the box in added time, but no foul was given
It was another frustrating result, & Chipstead now have a week until they host Balham in the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup first round next Saturday
