Chipstead slipped to their second home defeat of the season, as they lost 3-1 to Tadley Calleva in their latest match in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South on Saturday afternoon
With Ronaldo Flowers & Melford Simpson signed to boost the lineup, Chips started well, with Flowers getting to the byline, but his low cross was cut out
Keeper Sam Carman had to get down at his near post to gather a Tadley free-kick, & Evan Kelly deflected another effort away for a corner, but the home side was building pressure - Peter Wedgeworth put a great ball forward, but Emmanuel Robe couldn’t get onto the end of it - Elijah Hopwood fired a left-foot shot just wide, while a great cross from the left saw the diminutive Flowers beat the defence, but head just wide
Robe then fed Flowers, but his shot was blocked, & Chipstead’s task was made all the harder, when Richard Orlu was sent off, leaving his side to play the last 50 minutes with 10 men
Wedgeworth’s free-kick was headed goalwards by skipper Robb Sheridan, but it was cleared, & Carman had to save another Tadley shot, but it remained 0-0 at halftime
Tadley took the lead 1-0 just 2 minutes into the second half, as a long throw was glanced home by their no. 2 - Chips nearly mustered an instant reply, as Robe & Aaron Lamont combined to set up Hopwood, whose shot was deflected wide
The visitors almost grabbed a second goal, as their no. 10 lifted the ball over Carman, but wide as well - they had a better chance, when Robe was deemed to have brought his man down, & a penalty was awarded, but Carman got down to his left to save from their no. 8
He had to get down to save another shot from their centre-forward in open play, & Wedgeworth had to snuff out another attack
Chips still sought an equaliser, & Robe had a shot, which appeared to be deflected wide, but no corner was given - he then got to the byline, but his low effort was punched behind by the keeper
Tadley made it 2-0 on 74 minutes, as their no. 6 saw his shot deflected past Carman - four minutes later, it was 3-0, as the same player scored from the penalty spot, after Kelly was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball
Chipstead did get one back, as Tadley couldn’t clear a ball in their defence, & sub Michael Dixon turned it home at the far post
Carman prevented a fourth, as he tipped a shot onto the bar & over, although a goal kick was given - there was still time for Robe to shoot over the bar, & Dixon to see his goalbound effort pushed on to the bar and away
It finished Chipstead 1 Tadley Calleva 3, leaving Chips 15th in the league table, but they are quickly back in action, hosting Cobham in the league on Tuesday evening
