Chipstead edged a tight encounter & won 1-0 against Corinthian-Casuals in their latest match in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South at the High Road on Tuesday night

In a level opening, there was no real chance until Diego Munoz attacked down the left, but his cross was cut out

Edd Mbango then came close, as he bustled forward, but the keeper raced out of his box to head clear - Mbango soon escaped inside-right, but shot beyond the far post

Casuals had a few chances too, & it took Benjamin Gambrah to clear one off the line, with home keeper Jacob Bennett beaten

Munoz soon played the ball forward to Abioseh Davies, but he was crowded out by defenders, but then Bennett had to get down to his left to push wide a Casuals effort at the other end

Michael Agyemang broke forward positively, before setting the ball to Davies, but there was no way through the defence - Bennett had to be on his toes to catch another shot from the visitors, & it remained scoreless at the break

Into the second half & James Mansfield’s early free-kick was headed over by Mbango, before another one was glanced goalwards by Storm Glautier, but the keeper got down to snaffle it

A Casuals shot from wide on the left was comfortably gathered by Bennett, before Munoz aimed to curl one, but it landed on the roof of the visitors’ net

Chipstead made a triple change of substitutes for fresh legs, but it was Casuals, who went close next, as Glautier cleared the ball, which held up in the sandy penalty area with Bennett beaten

As Chips pushed forward, the pressure mounted - Munoz had a right-foot shot, which hit a defender, & Mansfield hit a piledriver, which was also charged down

But the all-important goal came with 11 minutes left, as a teasing cross from the left was whipped in & fell nicely for sub Deshon Carty to tuck it home at the far post to make it 1-0

Carty had the chance of a second, but shot wide on this occasion, while it took a majestic captain’s clearance at the back by Quincy Rowe to keep his side ahead

As the game entered added time, Carty was cynically chopped down, as he burst clear, & the period of treatment seemed to take the sting out of the game

Chipstead had again managed to see the game out well & claim the win, which maintains their 8th position in the table, and they will now look ahead to Saturday’s league game at Badshot Lea
