Chipstead returned to winning ways, as they comfortably beat Sheerwater 3-0 in their latest match in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South at the High Road on Saturday afternoon

It might have all been different, if Tiago Santos David hadn’t got down to make an important save early on, but Chips then grew into the game - Diego Munoz got free inside-left, but shot straight at the keeper, before Deshon Carty rounded the keeper in a new attack, but a defender got back to clear off the line

Leevi Bassett, starting at left-back, saw his effort blocked for another corner, & Carty’s fierce cross from the right was parried by the keeper, but no one could touch in the rebound

Bassett saw his corner headed wide by Storm Glautier, but Chipstead made the breakthrough on 29 minutes, as Carty rounded the keeper again & tucked the ball away to make it 1-0

Edd Mbango got away down the right, as Chips sought a second goal, but his brave cross was claimed by the keeper, yet the goal did arrive moments later, as Carty finished at close range to give his side a 2-0 lead at the break, although the Sheerwater keeper had to be at full stretch to keep out Mbango’s header, & Santos David also had to make a good save, and was relieved to see the rebound bounce back off a post

Into the second half, & the young Chipstead keeper had to rush out of his area to head clear a long ball forward, his clearance fell to a visiting forward, but his attempted lob was headed clear by a retreating Glautier

Chips made it 3-0 on 53 minutes, as Mbango profited from some indecision in the defence, & placed the loose ball into the bottom corner

Santos David, keen to protect his clean sheet, got down well to his left to push away a shot, which came through a crowd of players, while Kristian Campbell delivered a dangerous cross at the other end, as his side sought a fourth goal, but couldn’t find a teammate

Santos David got down to divert another effort wide for a corner, before another Sheerwater attempt hit a post too

Mbango flicked the ball on, as Chipstead tried to kill off the game, but Carty touched it wide - the nippy striker nearly completed his hat-trick in a bizarre way, as a hurried clearance from the visitors cannoned off him, but the keeper was able to gather the ball

Chips introduced their subs for fresh legs, but it was Santos David who had to save comfortably again, before one, Yonas Emhatsion, got away down the right, but Mbango’s shot was cut out

Santos David had to make one more big save to keep the visitors out, while an Emhatsion drive struck the post

The solid Chipstead performance saw them up to 7th in the league table ahead of Tuesday’s home tie with Badshot Lea in the Surrey Senior Cup
