Chipstead ended their recent run with a battling point in a 1-1 draw, as Epsom & Ewell visited the High Road in their latest game in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South on Saturday afternoon
After an even start, Chipstead went close, as Daniel Obolo on his debut headed just wide after good work down the left by Benjamin Gambrah & Diego Munoz
Reece Deakin had a shot from distance, but the Epsom keeper collected the ball - James Mansfield’s corner was then headed wide by Storm Glautier
Epsom took the lead 1-0 on 40 minutes, as ex-Chip Luke Miller’s dangerous low cross from the right was parried by home keeper Tiago Santos David, but their no. 11 touched home the rebound, & that remained the score at halftime
Chipstead needed to get back into the game, & brought on Yonas Emhatsion & Deshon Carty as substitutes early in the second period, yet it was Munoz who scored the equaliser virtually immediately, as he got away down the right on the hour mark, & fired past the keeper to make it 1-1
Chips then sought a second, & Munoz went close again, but his shot ended up on the roof of the net from a tight angle, before skipper Michael Agyemang’s free-kick was defended
Epsom thought they had grabbed the lead, but the lady referee blew for a free-kick after a push in the box
Both sides chased a winner, & Munoz put over another teasing cross, which was cleared
The Epsom no. 10 had a shot, which Santos David blocked, & Gambrah cleared the loose ball in the nick of time, with an opponent ready to pounce
Santos David had to push another header over at close range, while Chips had a late chance, as Erick Rayo Arias crossed from the right, Emhatsion headed down, but Deakin’s shot was over the target
It finished 1-1, a creditable point, with Chipstead 12th in the league table, but with little time to recover before visiting Sutton Common Rovers at Carshalton Athletic’s ground on Monday night
