BetVictor Isthmian League South Central Division

Chipstead got their BetVictor Isthmian League South Central Division campaign off to the best possible start, as two second-half goals secured the three points against a Bracknell side, seen by many as favourites for promotion at the end of the season

The home side almost had a dream start, as new boy Malachi Hudson, signed this week from Horsham, withstood pressure on the right wing, to put over a great, teasing cross, which the visiting skipper in goal managed to push away, & the skipper was again in action to deny Jensen Grant, as he touched Dan Moody's low corner goalwards moments later

Chipstead were creating space on the flanks - Moody had time to measure his cross from the right, but it was just over Tom Collins' head - then Hudson escaped on a mazy run down the right, but Collins couldn't get his shot away

Oliver Pain was then called into action in the home goal, as he was Johnny-on-the-spot to crucially hold a Bracknell goalbound header

Pain was then a tad fortunate, as the Bracknell no. 10 was allowed a second attempt at a free-kick awarded outside the Chipstead penalty area - the ball bounced down off the underside of the bar, didn't cross the goal-line & thankfully didn't deflect off Pain's back into the goal either, as often happens - instead he smothered the loose ball, & averted the danger

At the other end, Collins' free-kick glanced off Chris Boulter's head & wide for the home side, so it remained scoreless at the break

Into the second half & Chipstead's captain Sam Page received a yellow card for a mistimed challenge early on

Bracknell managed the first effort on goal, as the no. 10 again bustled away up front, the ball broke free to his fellow forward, but his shot was just over the bar

Chipstead mustered a quick reply, as Collins dribbled into the box from the left touchline, hit the keeper with his effort on goal, Moody reset the ball, & Josh Gallagher launched a fine drive, which cannoned off the crossbar

The warning signs were evident for the visitors, & Chipstead took the lead on 57 minutes - more good work from Collins saw the ball rebound off the bar again, & Callum Hart finished from close range with his right foot for 1-0

Chips kept the pressure on, as Moody cut in from the left, & forced the keeper into a full-stretch save, &, on 68 minutes, it was Moody again, on hand to seize on a loose ball just outside the visitors' area to turn home the second goal

Bracknell obviously weren't going to accept defeat, & tried to force the pace upfield - an inswinging corner was headed just wide by their centre-half, whilst a fierce volley from their sub was comfortably held by Pain in the home goal - the visitors had another shot just wide with 10 minutes left, but Chipstead kept plugging away themselves, with Moody nearly setting up Hudson, however his run was blocked at the expense of a corner

As the visitors pushed forward, they left space at the back - Collins held the ball up well, then Hart sent Moody clear, with a chance to kill off the game, but some last-ditch defending saved the day

There was still time for one last attempt from the visitors, but Pain got down superbly to tip the no. 10's sharp free-kick onto the post & away to safety, & Chipstead had won the day
