Chalfont St Peter 3 Chipstead 2

Chipstead were unable to bring Chalfont St Peter’s unbeaten start to the season to an end, going down to a 3-2 defeat in a game, which unusually saw three penalties scored, although, days later, the home side would win their Velocity Trophy game 17-16 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw!
Chips got off to a quick start, forcing the home keeper into a sharp stop in just the 3rd minute, as they looked to use their greater experience against a fairly young CSP side, although containing Luke Elliott as skipper, who was of course at the High Road last season
But their early chances came to nought, as the home side refused to yield – after an early substitution, CSP in fact had a teenage front line, but this didn’t affect them, & the home team actually went ahead in the 34th minute, as a free-kick narrowly beat Oliver Pain at the foot of his right-hand post
However, Chipstead were level within 4 minutes, as the home keeper was adjudged to have brought down a visiting forward, & Sam Clayton made no mistake from the penalty spot, meaning it was 1-1 at halftime
Chips had few chances in the second period, as CSP built up pressure, & the home side went 2-1 ahead on 56 minutes from the penalty spot
They kept up their momentum, & looked to have killed off the game, as they went 3-1 up after 69 minutes, as Pain could only parry a shot from their left-winger, & their early sub just beat Jordan Bird to the rebound
Now Chipstead had to push forward, & this seemed to unsettle the home side, who conceded another penalty in the closing stages, which Clayton again put away clinically, but there wasn’t enough time to find an equaliser, so Chips will hope for better in their next game, the FA Cup replay at Hassocks on Tuesday evening
