Chipstead maintained their recent unbeaten run in a lively, yet goalless, encounter with South Park in their latest BetVictor Isthmian League South Central Division match on Tuesday evening
Due to division boundaries last season & this, the fixture represents the closest they get to a local derby, & so feisty challenges call for some strong officiating as required
With chances at either end, it was perhaps surprising that it remained scoreless throughout
It was Oliver Pain in the Chipstead goal, who was called into action first, as he got down well early on to save a shot from distance, before his team mates began to exert pressure at the other end
Great interplay set up Allan Tait, but his shot was blocked, while Sam Clayton had a dangerous free-kick sliced over his own net by a visiting defender - Michak Stanic-Stewart headed another Clayton corner over the target, before a South Park header was just wide of a Chips post
Dan Moody spotted the opposition keeper off his line, but his speculative shot from halfway was wide of the mark, while Pain had to be down sharpish to turn a South Park header around a post, although the flag was raised for offside
Another Chipstead attack saw the ball ricochet around the visitors' box like a pinball, but they couldn't find the killer touch, whilst at the other end a South Park shot cannoned off the crossbar
There was still time before the interval for Josh Gallagher to make a timely interception, & send Malachi Hudson away wide left, but the winger was crudely brought down, & the chance was lost, so it remained 0-0 at the break
Former South Park player Joe Jackson came on as a halftime sub for Chipstead to add extra spice to the occasion, with more tough tackling coming from both teams
Chances continued at both ends too - Pain made a vital save low down to keep the visitors out, while Moody shot just wide for the home side - Hudson had another jinking run, but couldn't get his shot away, before he put over another low ball from the left, which just eluded the onrushing Jackson
Tommy Smith's cross was just headed just wide by Jackson, but neither side could break the deadlock
If the same happens in 7 days in their Velocity Trophy group game, there will be a penalty shootout after 90 minutes, but meanwhile Chipstead will concentrate on their mouthwatering FA Cup tie at Welling Utd., two tiers above, at the weekend
