Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Division - Saturday 5th March 2022

Chipstead secured all three points in another great win on their travels, as they beat Ashford Town (Middlesex) 3-0 in their latest match in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday afternoon

The game marked the first start for Zohair Irtiza-Ali, the current Chipstead under-18s’ skipper, & he played a key part at the back to keep Ashford at bay all afternoon, with three first-half goals killing the game off as a contest, even when they lost Daryl Coleman to a red card for receiving two yellows

They took the lead after only 7 minutes, as the ball broke for Andy Somo to run onto, & he slotted home past the keeper

Somo had a chance to make it 2-0 after 12 minutes, but was denied by a great last ditch block from the home centre half

Ashford had a couple of chances, but it was Chipstead, who extended their lead on 42 minutes, when they won a loose ball in midfield, & Somo was on hand to notch his second

There was even time for a third before the break, as Jack Beadle headed home a wicked cross from the right in added time - what a half!

Ashford had to come out strongly after the interval, & they had an early chance, but Matt Kerbey advanced to close down the onrushing striker

When Coleman was sent off on the hour mark, things might have got tricky, but Chipstead stuck to their game plan & held the home side at bay to earn a good win, a clean sheet & three points, which takes them up to 11th in the league table ahead of next Saturday’s home game with Westfield
