For the second week running, Chipstead managed to kill off the game with 3 first-half goals, & then contain the opposition - this time they hosted Westfield & were ahead after just 4 minutes, as Peter Wedgeworth’s outswinging corner was headed home by 19-year-old centre-half Jamal Abubakari from Dulwich Hamlet on his debut
Home keeper Matt Kerbey made a couple of key blocks from former Chip Kyen Nicholas to keep his side ahead, & a second home goal nearly came when Tom Smith, from the under-18 side, making his full league debut, sent Sam Bell away wide right, he passed to Jonathan Gjoshe, whose cross was headed just wide by Andy Somo
Smith soon received his first league yellow card too - a bit harsh, as it was his first real challenge, nothing malicious
But man-of-the-moment Somo was soon on the scoresheet, chasing a hopeful ball, which bounced off the keeper, & he slid the ball home to make it 2-0 on 30 minutes
Eight minutes later & it was effectively game over - Somo got away inside-left & eased the ball past the onrushing keeper to make it 3-0
Into the second half & good team interplay sent skipper Kieran Lavery in on goal, but he shot over the bar, & Somo had the ball in the net, but it was ruled offside, as he was about to celebrate his hat-trick
Sam Bell teed up Smith for a shot, but it went wide
Chipstead introduced subs for fresh legs, & saw the match out with good game management - another assured performance at the back by under-18 skipper, Zohair Irtiza-Ali, beside new teammate Abubakari, helped secure the clean sheet, while the Westfield defence, led by their captain, & another former Chip, Luke Elliott, struggled to cope with Somo’s strength up front
Chips held on for the 3 points, which moves them up to 10th in the table, ahead of next Saturday’s trip to Northwood
