Chipstead secured a hard-fought point against another of the division's play-off contenders Hanwell Town in their latest match in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday afternoon
This was due in no small way to the heroics of Matt Kerbey in the home goal, whose saves, particularly in the first half, kept Hanwell at bay, especially one at point-blank range just before halftime
By then, Chips had also ridden their luck, as the visitors’ no. 8 had shot across Kerbey & hit the far post, but the ball bounced out to safety
Yet the home side had chances of their own, with Sam Bell beating the offside trap, but his shot hit the keeper, while Callum McAllister's teasing free-kick fell to Jack Beadle, who also found the keeper in his path
Ex-Chip Tom Collins came on as sub for Hanwell on the hour mark, replacing Gareth Chendlik, who’d been unable to mark his 100th appearance with a goal, but he was denied by Daryl Coleman, as he bore down on goal, while another shot did find the net, but was chalked off for offside
Peter Wedgeworth's deep cross to Alpha Barry Diallo, on as sub for his debut, nearly prompted a late winner for the home side, while Collins had the last touch of the game for Hanwell, but his header was just wide of the post
So it finished goalless, a point apiece, with Chipstead still 10th in the league table, ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Guernsey
