Chipstead earned a deserved point with an equaliser 20 minutes from time in their latest match in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Division match v. Ashford Town (Middlesex) on Tuesday night
After an even start with no real chances, Andy Somo nearly set Dan Moody up, but he was tackled, when about to shoot
Chips began to build pressure - Karn Miller-Neave had a drive deflected inches wide - then the ball was headed goalwards, but the Ashford keeper got down to push it away - Kieran Lavery had a shot on target, which was nearly deflected for an own goal, but it remained 0-0 at the break
After the restart, good team play set up Moody again, but his shot was deflected wide - from the resultant corner, Lavery headed just past the post
On 58 minutes, Ashford took the lead, as their no. 9 finished a good team move for them
Chipstead brought on Daniel Berry & Jeremy Boakye as substitutes, but, before they could settle, the visitors had another shot just wide of the target
Berry, our promising under-18s striker, made an immediate impact, & it was his perseverance up front which set up Raheem Sterling-Parker for the equaliser - great to see RS-P back fit & hungry for the ball, as well as getting on the scoresheet
Chips sought a winner - Berry opted to pass to Ollie Allen, instead of going for goal himself, & the chance was gone - a low free-kick from Miller-Neave saw the ball deflected & nearly sneak in past the keeper - centre-half Michael Olarewaju, up from the back, was allowed to advance & shoot, but it went just wide - another good move saw a Moody finish wide of the mark too
So it finished 1-1, a point apiece, & Chipstead now move on to a visit to Thatcham Town on Saturday
