Chipstead won through on penalties in their latest Velocity Trophy group game v. Tooting & Mitcham at the High Road on Tuesday evening

With both sides making changes from their usual starting lineups, it gave a chance to some of the squad players & some new blood

Chipstead featured Julian Schwarzer, son of Australian international Mark, in goal, & he got down comfortably to push wide an early shot from the visitors, while Aaron Miller crossed low at the other end, but just beyond Kyen Nicholas on his home debut

Dan Moody then fired over the bar, before Chris Boulter made the first of his several timely interceptions on the night to keep T&M at bay

Tom Collins soon tested the visiting keeper, while Schwarzer was again down to hold another visitors' effort with ease

However, he was powerless to stop the opening goal on 34 minutes, as the T&M winger hit a shot, which took a wicked deflection into the net

Seven minutes later, Chipstead were level, as Josh Gallagher swept home left-footed into the bottom corner to restore parity at halftime

The home side began the second period positively - Sam Clayton had a drive saved by the keeper, & Moody saw his fierce attempt parried away, after good strength was shown by Nicholas upfront

Miller had to make a key clearance to foil a break from the visitors, before Collins backheeled the ball to sub Sam Bell after a chase to the byline, but Nicholas & Callum Hope couldn't get a telling touch on the low ball in

Collins was denied again minutes later by the keeper's feet, while Schwarzer thwarted a T&M striker on the break in a 1-on-1 situation

As penalties loomed after 90 minutes, as per this competition's format in the event of a draw, Nicholas was again strong in the challenge, but couldn't set up Collins, before Nicholas' own drive was beaten away to safety by the keeper

The drama of penalties then followed - Clayton, Moody, Collins, Miller & Bell all dispatched theirs with aplomb, giving the keeper no chance, but the T&M 5th penalty taker tried to deceive Schwarzer, but virtually ended up sidefooting the ball into the keeper's dive to his left, & victory was secured

Chipstead's final group game is at Whyteleafe on Tuesday 5th November, but their attention turns first to their Buildbase FA Trophy First Qualifying Round tie at home to Canvey Island at the weekend
