Chipstead’s under-18s exited the Isthmian Youth League Cup at the second round stage, as they went down by the only goal of the game against Maidstone Utd. at the High Road on Monday night in a match in which they had plenty of chances, only to find the visiting keeper in inspired form
Both sides started brightly - home keeper Finnley Davenport calmly dealt with the first two Maidstone attacks, while skipper Sava Kioufi fed Naquarm Clarke-Douglas, who shot just over the target - Travas Feneley delivered a teasing free-kick into the box, but the keeper managed to claim it, before Clarke-Douglas passed into Feneley’s path, but the keeper parried his effort
Clarke-Douglas then escaped on a break, took his shot early, but the keeper was down to save it - Teddy Cook dazzled his way down the right, before passing to Feneley, who was foiled by the keeper again, & so it remained 0-0 at halftime
Into the second half & Kioufi headed a Feneley free-kick just wide, before Feneley went for goal, but the keeper pushed it away
Maidstone made the vital breakthrough, as their left-winger’s cross-shot flew over Davenport, hit the inside of the far post & went in to give them a 1-0 lead
Chipstead sought an immediate riposte, sending on their subs, & two soon combined, as Levi Palm sent Ben Mills in on goal, but the keeper blocked his attempt - Feneley took a short free-kick to Jafari Languedoc, who dribbled his way into the box, but couldn’t find the net
Palm broke through from halfway, lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper outside his area, but a defender got back to clear, before it crossed the goal line
As time ran down, Cook fired a shot just wide, & Languedoc broke clear again, but the keeper made a double block to prevent the equaliser
Palm went down in the box in a challenge with the keeper, but no penalty was given - Chips just couldn’t muster an equaliser from the chances they created, & go out of the competition - they next host Aldershot Town in the league on Monday 9th October
